Is it just me or is the Active Users List on the main forum page no longer in alphabetical order? I found it very convenient to find out if someone was online or not just by looking at the list but this is difficult now. Please change this back. :)

Just do a Ctrl-F for the name you want to look. If you don't have a name to search for, then there's no point to even look at the list

Why is it that the first username that I saw when I looked at that pic was "condomwrap"? :cheesygri

Probably another resource saving measure. Sorting that list takes CPU resources.

The difference in sorting by name can't be that big of a resource hog.
Only the most anal of webmasters would not sort a list because of that.

Everything is a resource hog when its done every time 1400 concurrent people hit refresh.
The developers felt it was enough of a potential resource user that they put the option in the forum software config to either sort, not sort, or not display the active user list.

Well, if the list is no longer in alphabetical order, is there really any point to keeping it there then? We have to search for the name anyways now, so why not save a few more resources by hiding that list? ;) Maybe just the number of users online can be shown "for show". Well, whatever, I guess it's up to management.

It actually specifically states in the Admin CP for vBulletin:
"Not recommended for sites with hundreds of simultaneous users. The Alphabetical option requires more resources than the random option."
We like having the list there, but with the server loads being very high the last couple of weeks, we're exploring tweaks to keep performance at a reasonable level during peak times. This is one such tweak.

Hmm, well I stand corrected. :D
