If the NASCAR truck series is any indication of Toyota's competitiveness (Toyota hold 4 spots in the top 5), I wonder how they would do in NASCAR.

I've always thought nascar was a US made car only race, guess I was mistaken. :)

How fast are these cars?

Assembled may be a a better word. Parts come from wherever its cheapest to make them.
Although companies like Magna, TRW etc contribute to some of its north american content.

I love the idea.

The american makers have always had nascar to look to for their racing heritage as they cant seem to compete outside of the US and the love of the oval. I wouldnt be surprised to see some rule changes in years to come ifthe Janpanese manufactureres start dominating.

I do love how people (nascar fans I guess) associate the car they dirve with the nascar version.

true ... but its not a Semi-Knockdown-Kit where you ship all the manufactured parts of the car (say in Mexico) and assemble them in a factory in the States ... so some parts might be built outside the US but most of the car is built in the states ...

I have no idea why they still use normal car model names for Nascar. The vehicles raced don't look anything like the real thing short of the painted on rear and front ends. They share absolutely nothing in common mechanically with the real thing either.

It's not like the '50's or '60's where they would "win on Sunday and sell on Monday". I know Nascar has evolved over the years but the best they could do is homolgate a few cars for public sale each year like the GT circuits do and give the whole thing a little more credibility.

its all about marketing
getting the model name out there will have better reputation for the car

That's almost like saying the Ford GT is not an American car. That car I guess is also assembled in the US then.

no

What do you mean no? are you saying the Ford GT is fully made true american car? Cause if you say that, then the Toyota Camry is also american made.

The Ford GT is a car which is only assembled in the US.
