Just got back from Safeway and they have a limited time offer of a $20 gift card when you buy at least $75 worth of meat at one time. I'm going to take advantage of this for sure. Sorry if it's already been posted.

sounds like they stocked up on too much meat, lol. I've never bought more than $20 of meat at once, let alone $75.

As far as i know, its nation wide. Also along with the 20gc with $75 worth of meat there is also a promotion buy any 2 Value packs of meat and get 20 bonus airmiles-excluding seafood.

ALSO- If you want to make a profit and have no moral values, safeway has also brought there double your money back guarantee on meat so you can go buy the MOST expensive meat item in stock and return it (with proof of purchase) and get double your money back (price you pay time 2). this should also be nation wide as well.

27% off of meat (assuming you stick as close to $75 as possible is a good deal). Safeway carries meat from a variety of countries in addition to Canada (perplexingly some of their beef is from New Zeland?!). Make sure to buy Canadian where possible! :)

I wonder if it can be combined with their perenial BOGO deals like the shrimp? Dont see why not.

FYI the deal is alive in Calgary too as are the Airmiles

Problem is Safeway is a rip-off on almost everything, including meat to begin with. They charge about 30% more than Superstore or Costco on equiv cuts.

75 bucks is how much it costs to buy a roast in california. Its insane

Safeway's meats cuts aren't the best. I prefer Sobeys. Even Superstore has better, fresher cuts. A good deal though!

same here... prbly max for me was like $30/$35... but $75 is way too much.

perhaps a group buy/share would be more favourable...

I don't even think my fridge is big enough to fit $75 of meat! :lol:

Too bad they didn't do this 2 months later, I would be inclined to stock up for bbq season and fire up the new grill I bought last year...

What's the word on frozen meat cuts and how long they keep in deep freeze with proper packaging? (freezer bag and wrapped in foil)

Hey Spuddy LOL You hit the tatter right on the head about that. Safeway is too expensive to buy groceries at. I only shop Safeway for the airmiles rewards and only the products that give the bonus airmiles unless I see something on sale. A couple weeks ago they had Safeway ketchup with bonus airmiles 2/$4 and a little one horse grocery store here in Nanaimo had it on sale for $1.50 same 1 litre bottle. They are just too expensive I agree with you but say they are 30% more than a convenience store.

With proper packaging as you suggested, they could keep for up to 2 years in the freezer! ;) I often eat stuff that is in there for longer, but for maximum "freshness" you should consume frozen stuff within 6 mos - 1 year.

10% tuesdays are a minimum of a $35 order after club card savings and taxes, does not include cigs, stamp, and blahblahblah

Thanks xeno, I am planning on buying about $45 to $50 worth of Airmiles bonus goods to get 110 Airmiles. So on the total I should get double airmiles which will be 2 per $40 in cost X ten = 20 more.
110 on bonus airmiles plus 20 customer appreciation = 130 Airmiles for under $50 total expense.

This is just a gimmick for Safeway to get you to buy a lot of meat for about the price you'd pay when it's on sale.

For instance, they're advertising chicken thighs for $1.99/lb. Normally when they go on sale, it's cheaper and often Buy 1, get 1 Free. Regular price is around $3.20/lb, so you can see that $1.99 minus 27% is roughly the same as the Buy 1, Get 1 Free price.

Let's look at chicken legs with back attached. It falls to $0.99/lb once in a while. Their advertised price minus the gift card value is still higher than this $0.99/lb.

Their crappy cuts of meat like blade steak is $1.00/lb higher than their normal sale prices.

I find that Safeway always has good deals on yogurt though. RCSS's yogurt is not only pricy but usually out of stock. Not going for this meat deal though, it's like someone said - it's overpriced.

went last night for groceries at Slaveway and went for the meat deal too. Got a bonus since it was 10% off Tuesday. It was not too hard to get $75 worth (only 8 items! :( ) Did alright tho, got

Pork Loin Chops ($8.80/kg) (-10% off)-> $8 (-27% off)-> $6.30/kg (total =43% off)

Uncooked Jumbo Shrimp ($6.99/454g) (-10% off) -> $6.35/454g (-27% off) -> $5.00/454g (or $11.01/kg)

Chix thigh/breast combo (not my 1st choice, but I needed thighs - $14.40/kg) (-10% off) -> $13.09 (-27% off) -> $10.30/kg

Ran into my biggest petpeeve about Slaveway tho they did have a deal for chicken thighs @$4.38/kg before discount but as usual they were cleaned out! :mad: I will take partial responsibility for it tho since I was shopping at 10:30pm on the 10% off night, but I had no other choice! :(

I know for certain [after asking, and after going through the till and thus confirming this] that the price of the $75 that you have to spend is BEFORE the Safeway Club Card discounts come off - AND that items such as bologna, pepperoni sticks, etc. DO also count toward that. I found some great side ribs for $10 - $15 'reg.' price, [which applied toward my '$75 min, purchase' AND they were marked down to around 6$ each, plus, I got 20 bonus miles for each 2 pack of value packs of meat I bought. {Alberta Safeway. Canadian beef.} So it isn't REALLY $75 that you have to spend. {Club card savings will knock a huge portion off!} This is a great deal! I would RUN to the nearest Safeway store now, guys, now that you know the $75 is BEFORE club savings are applied.

And for anyone who would even consider returning the meat for the 'double your money back guarantee' - hey, c'mon, that's not a fair thing to do, guys.

Thanks jory29! $75 before Club Card discounts changes things a lot.
