I never understand why this line of cameras is always more expensive than the Elph series....

Because it's smaller and comes with a cradle. The ladies like it.

It's 329.99 at Henry's - may be cheaper with coupon and if you are outside Ontario (no PST) :)

I always wanted a cradle for my SD400... too bad they don't make one. But are you sure it's smaller? The Elph seems small enough...

This camera looks like a bus compared to the sports car style of the Elph series.

Plus Visaperks give you a $25 giftcard for your next purchase. You can use it to buy accessories for your new SD30. :)

It is smaller than the SDxxx series. And yes, the ladies do love it. My female roommate bought the SD10 (the one without any optical zoom) instead of the SD200 at the time due to its size.

She did use it as a point and shoot all of the time, rarely using the zoom at all, so the lack of optical zoom meant zip to her

This camera is fantastically small and feature-packed. It's about the size of a cellphone and has great optics.

I got one for my wife on Boxing Day for $379.99 at Henry's and that was a deal then. Price drop $50 in three months? This is a smoking price for a great compact camera.

the 2.4x opt. zoom is no big deal, the average user doesnt need more than 3x zoom anyways.

Is this the same size as the sd10? if so, ill get it.

Would you consider this an upgrade over the SD200?

Basically the same size,

SD10
90.3 x 47.0 x 18.5mm
SD30
96.1 x 45.1 × 23.9 mm

I personally liked the style of the SD10/20 much more than the new SD30.
Maybe it's just the difference between the "matte"/"glossy" finish on them, don't like cameras that show fingerprints all over them so easily.

And yes, SD30 is definitely a huge upgrade over SD200
Most noticeable would be the better movie mode, more megapixels and the My Colors feature

good camera, tho it is being discontinued
if im not mistaken, it can only record video at 15 fps vs. 30fps of the SD450

better movie mode, are you serious? SD 200 has one of the best. So tell me, what warrants the price of the sd30 other than size and 5MP.

Review link (http://www.megapixel.net/reviews/canon-sd30/sd30-specs.php)

Movie mode (motion JPEG):
640 × 480 @ 10 fps
320 × 240 @ 20 fps
160 x 120 @ 15 fps

Incidentally, RCSS has red SD30s for $349.88 as well.

What's its replacement? I took a look at a press release from canon detailing the next lineup of cameras scheduled for release in 2006, but I didn't find one in the digital elph line in the same category as the SD30 (only the larger cameras).
