just like you, I have gotten addicted to chocolate croissant every since I went to France when I was small, so I've tried many but none will come close to the ones in france (at least that's what it seems like)
try Michel's Baguette Bakery Café, it's a bit pricy comparing to loblaws but taste better, there's one in yorkdale and in fairview

I've mentioned this place before, but for real French baking try "Patisserie Bruno Daudet" in the plaza at Bloor and Mill Rd. (Bloor - West of 427, East of Dixie). The owners had a Patisserie in France before they moved to Canada, so the pastries are really authentic.
Haven't tried the chocolate croissants yet, but everything we've had from there has been amazing.

I'm looking for chocolate croissants with two bars of chocolate inside of them...in France, it's called "double barre". Anyone know where I can get these in downtown Toronto?

Hmm, judging by your username and location, would it be of a stretch that you have one of your best friends named Cheryl?

I buy fresh chocolate/almond croissants ($1.50) in Thornhill at a bakery next to Longos on Bayview (north of Steeles), in a plaza next to Starbucks. I never buy them at the big chain stores (Loblaws, etc)
They're best warmed up in the toaster oven for a few minutes (not too long).

jo you're famous!
bananaman, i guess it's not a stretch to say that you date someone of the same name? ;)
anyway, Michel's Baguette has good variety of croissants. while they ARE great and decadent, they're not exactly the same found France. There's a Michel's Baguette on Yonge near the NY Library.

Rahier has the best chocolate croissants in the city! You have to go early in the day though because they sell out FAST.

haha damn, RFD's small circle of food-enthusiasts!
either way, i love a good chocolate crossant thats been zapped in the microwave to warm the filling and then popped in the toaster-oven for a couple of mins to crisp the outsides..
i remember one bakery had a really good chocolate+almond filled one.. had like chocolate and almond marzipan filling.... mmmmm

Benny's Bagels, West Broadway, Vancouver.
I had my first Swiss chocolate almond croissant there in 1988. They still have them last time I was there.

Thank you!!! Now to find a nearby Richtree. :(
For those who think these are pricey, remember, they have TWO whole bars of chocolate inside but they are more significant to me because I ate them throughout my time in France. :)
