Oh no...
I was waiting in line with my car for a car wash.
I pressed too hard on the accelerator while in park..reaching 5x6000 rpm..
This is a new Corolla with 260 km on it..
Am i screwed?

Machinery these days are good. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Don't be too gung-ho about running-in the engine. Try to do it while you can, but it's not the end of the world if you rev it up too high

no worries,
1-2 seconds won't hurt. break-in period just suggests that you don't push your engine too hard (constantly) for the first while.
and as mentioned, new engines these days are really good and barely require any break-in period.

i heard that toyota's engine are all broken in in factory.
They mount them on a stand and just let it run.
just a rumour, i saw photos of it...maybe not for every car.

5x6000rpm = 30000rpm.... geez you're lucky your engine didn't melt into a pool of glowing goo on the floor of the car wash..... ;)

As stated above, I also did hear that engines are already factory 'broken in' so to speak. But I still did the normal break-in procedures (i.e. - vary your revs, etc) just because I thought it would help the engine more.
But to answer your question - you definitely didn't damage your car or void your warranty
lol

Not sure about that these days. One guy over in the TSX forums had some problem with the tranny or soemthing and the dealer would not warrant it cause of abuse (they check the computer and it showed he had revved up past the redline)
I'm not sure how valid this is though. Anyone know?

well... if it went past redline its fine, if it went past fuel cutoff then
the guy i'm guessing in the TSX probably mis-shifted causing the revs to really jump and cause damage. this is only possible on a manual of course. (e.g. instead of from 3rd to 4th, by accident goto 2nd and bye bye engine/tranny)

Don't most Toyota automatics have a rev-limiter while in park? Somewhere between 3-4,000 rpm?
Considering you already need to push the car to those rev's on some of the shorter highway on-ramps there isn't anything to worry about.

your fine .... but why the hell would be gunning it that hard even if it was in drive? lol
usually shift less then 3k rpm during break in period, once over redline away!

You went 5 x 6000 = 30,000 rpm? WOW! My Accord cuts off at prolly 7 x 1000 = 7000 rpm. Where do you get your Corollas from?
