Is this a hip hop / reggae / socca type place where you have to wear a baseball cap tilted 30 degrees to the right and a basketball jersey with jeans down to your knees????? ...... by the name, it sure sounds like it. If it is then its not for me or 99% of RFD. :cheesygri

it doesn't sound like that to me..... and from location of it, it sounds like fob/CBC asian place or just another small sports bar with a mixed crowd..

yeah...your assumption is pretty close to being right.

we don't have alot of chinese music videos right now but i'm onto it. gettin' as much chinese MTV/KTV's as much as possible. gonna talk to EMG (after all, i've worked with Emporer Motion Pictures and Joy Sales for the dvd releases of their 2 most recent movies "The Myth" and "A Chinese Tall Story") about whether or not they can hook me up with any exclusives. canadian distro's are usually very overpriced from what i hear.
since my assumption was rite, do i get any discounts of VIP cards!??! :cheesygri j/j....

i'm not sure about how the whole thing works, but i *think* lots of places that show KTVs/MVs dun actually have the right to them. They either d/l it off the net, or just play from DVDs (both pirated and legit) they buy. So I dun think u really need to ask EMG rite? ;)

man...i'm too tired to deal with discounts... i don't know...i don't know how to hook myself up with discounts. let alone hooking it up for others.

but i think it's just a matter of principle here. if not for them to give me the okay for working on "the myth", i wouldn't have this translation job, wouldn't i? i'll download everything else, but no EMG stuff. if i want that, then i'll get it thru legit means.

I'll be there some time one weeknight since my friend who used to live here and returned to HK is in Toronto again for visit. I am going to bring him to visit...

just curious......
is any of the current owners also the owner of Mug Master Cafe by chance?
what would you rate Urban Lounge & Platform2 (on Woodbine)?

Speaking about Platform2 (sorry for OT), we need to have this kind of bars (more like H.K. style) here in T.O. since we have not much.

What makes it urban? It's in the middle of nowhere.
It would have been funnier if they called it Suburban Lounge. At least they wouldn't be trying to be hip or downtown.

from the top of my head, we have Coors Light, Budweiser, Corona, Stella Artois, Mike's Hard Lemonade, Korean Soju, and etc. i can't remember it all. there were other stuff that i've never heard of.

I actually went to Urban on their opening night. That place was rammed! It's actually a really nice classy place, and they have SOJU!!! Finally somewhere uptown that's close to home with soju! I liked the crowd, mostly people in the 20-30's, bartender looks like a pretty cool guy.. did flare shows and everything. Service was quick too. Definitely going to hang out there more often.

It's against the law to smoke indoors at any bar or restaurant.

no. not during business hours. i know it sucks but the government's been very anal-retentive about it lately. i heard this other bar in the GTA, which i will keep unidentified here, got fined for alot of money for having ppl smoking inside. one of which, was underaged.

BUT you gotta obey the rules in order to keep a business running. even though, i know zilch about business, it's just what i figured.

Hydra Bar has even stopped allowing ppl to smoke inside.

there are establishments that have separate smoking tables, though. Jack Astor's is an example.

I went during the weekdays and it was OK. NOt so packed and it's a nice hip looking place for the burbs. If you enjoy hiphop music then it's the place for you to ack like Jayz and Rockafella

Food could of been better. The nachos surpreme was ok but they brought the nacho and salsa sauce from the Food Basic sales $1 each(i was eating those just the day before I went to urban). http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280069&highlight=food+basic

it's more like a place for both because frankly speaking, i've seen ppl from both crowds come in and out of the smoking area. (btw, we do have chinese videos. chances of them being played is most likely early on in the day. of course, that is just my assumption. don't take it seriously.)

Urban Lounge istypically an asian hangout. Other nationalites? Only if they are in groups with other asians.

Over by platform, I do see non-asians go there to drink. its sorta like a lounge/bar with TVs placed everywhere that shows mainly sports and some asian music videos/TV shows.

Does anyone have a problem with Urban Lounge's ventilation ?? As i keep haering about how bad the air circulation is.

Yep, they do get raided occaisonally so it's not worth the a measly sale of food to be worth getting fined or license revoke for having minors in the establishment. Besides, they earn more from alcohol than food. The food is to get you to buy more drinks.

Just went last night horrible service, they can't make HK milk tea for beans. Looks like they hired friends or relatives because they were incompetent or ugly (sorry but that matters if you want consistent clientele). The one waitress that served me last time before was great, very friendly and made everything I ordered correctly. Probably will go back tonite, itchin for some nachos supreme

I see that place everytime I go to Pacific Mall. But haven't had the time to just hang out there because of the parking. Has anyone been to the Japanese all you can eat restaurant at Pacific Mall on the basement/bottom level facing Steeles?

I was going to eat there w/ my mom but a couple that walked out said it wasn't that good for the price. I think it's like $18.99 (not including tax) for dinner where you can order as much food but if you leave some pieces, you'll get charge. I think it's sorta like the one on Woodbine across from Taste of Japan. I used to love eating at Taste of Japan but now their food quality/freshness isn't as good... I guess it's b/c of competition from the all you can eat Japanese restaurant there.

So my mom and I ate at the Pho place across Pacific Mall where TD Bank is. Pho's food is so cheap and their taste/quality is good and fresh (from what I ordered)! I paid for my mom and I and it was under $20 lol. First time for me as I'm a leecher. ^^; They also have another restaurant in Scarborough - Finch and Midland (I think!), it's where the Taco Bell/KFC is and has that old ugly Brown Medical building. I take the TTC to get there the Finch bus heading to Neilson/McCowan.

I agree that the service here kind of sucks. Ordered 4 beers, took almost 20 minutes to get them when the place had maybe 2 other groups inside at the time. Some friends ordered other items but many of the items were "out of stock/not available". It was also really warm inside. At least the atmosphere was pretty nice and they played some Roots videos (but also ja rule crap). Oh and most of the food items were good (nachos!) :|

ha! i've seen people complain that the nacho supreme sucks. the odd thing is, i'm like sitting next to these people at the time and they've left the nachos there on the table for like half an hour while the cheese hardens up as it got cold. some customers should have some common sense (esp. when one of the kitchen staff is there).

the wait staff dont make anything. They just bring it out to you.

She did because we went there early because my friend had to sleep at 10pm and we were there like 6-7pm when the sun was still out. Needless to say there wasn't anyone in there and the waitress was the only person there. So she told me she'd make it herself.

Nachos alone is good enough reason to go, completely ruining my regimen

went there like a month ago, service was pretty good, but the attitude of the waitresses need to be adjusted,, i know that its their job to drive up the bill by enticing the patrons to order more, but indirectly saying that people can't handle shots just to get them to order more is kinda sleazy.

This lounge attempts to pass off as a posh, hip, lounge playing music anywhere from hiphop, r&b to even chinese music - an odd combination in my opinion. They perhaps do well to cater to the younger crowds ranging from 19-24 but fail in its advertised promise of "bringing downtown uptown" as it is nowhere close to the ambiance of downtown club and lounge establishments. The service staff there is average at best and while I was there on a Saturday night, they were out of stock on a lot of things - not a very good impression on a lounge boasting so much promise. The environment is dark and unrelaxing. It does not create the atmosphere where you feel welcomed - likely due to choice of lights that were used. There is nothing about this lounge that makes it unique from any other markham/richmond hill bar. It is similiar to bars like the one at Commerce Gate (where Tropical used to be - now called Status) and it also reminds me of that karaoke lounge where Hot Gossip used to be. Overall, it does well for young patrons looking for a simple place to just drink some rounds of alcohol but fails on all the hype it had promised prior to its opening.

Been there once, it's not bad if you're passing through and want a couple of beers.

It doesn't look like a lot of money was put into the place; the seating feels uncomfortable, the interior is somewhat sparse (not in a good way), the LCD displays are fuzzy and always showing music vids from Kobra Videos...I wouldn't recommend it for a planned outing.

I'd have to agree with Coke. There's just something about the setup that just doesn't feel right. I'd describe this more like an urban bbtea house that server alcohol. You don't feel it's a sports bar and it's a not a place you'd want to hang out in. The low tables and booth chairs facing the bar felt really akward. Although the teenie bopper waitresses tried to flirt a bit enticing you to buy more drinks/food. I'd say save your money and buy your beers somewhere else.

i checked this place out last night. If you are used to the downtown scene Urban wouldnt deliver this kind of ambience.

Its more of a cozy intimate setting good for a crowd that would prefer a quiet chillaxing evening while listening to a live acoustic set.

I like the interior, i think it was laid out up to par to my standards

thats my two cents

i haven't worked there since last October and probably haven't gone there for months up until recently. something's different about UL now. food seems to be alot more expensive these days. close to 10 bucks for a smaller plate of nacho supreme and it also seems like something is missing out of the nacho supreme. i, of all people, would know since i used to make nacho supreme all the time (having worked there and all). on the other hand, i love the current fries they make right now. nice, crispy and just the right amount of salt.

and CSAgent, i recall there was another former UL waitress that was also part of ur softball team.

oh...i know her but not too well.
and when you said "both of my friends", i think i can automatically assume the 2nd friend is Jeny. anyway, i'm comtemplating about returning to Urban so the bar would (at least) get its old nacho supreme back because to be honest, when i tried the nacho supreme recently, it doesn't taste the same anymore. lack of cheese, the meat doesn't taste the same and the portion looks so much smaller now. when i look at the new price tag and see that it's $9, i feel so hesitant to spend that money for a plate of nacho supreme now.

i've actually discussed this with their current manager yesterday. gotta give the old UL style nacho supreme the comeback it deserves.

i know ppl @ UL may be reading this but if i can be blunt about my other work at Joy Sales & Diskotek Media (i work on DVD's for these companies), i can be blunt about UL as well.

on the contrary, i dont' work there anymore. but you gotta be serious in terms of work. it doesn't matter where or what you're working at. despite the possibility of coming back, my real cash flow comes from translations.

if you were to say that there's something that i worked on that i'm proud of. this would definitely be one of them.

never gone though....is this more of an asian ppl hangout? or will the brown folk like me be welcomed without any gawking *what the hell is he doing here* stares? :cheesygri

what type of ppl is the crowd normally? is there a dancefloor and stuff? or jsut a place to chill/eat/drink ?

also is there a dress code?

from what i remember, there were plenty of brown people coming and no, there weren't any weird stares from what i recall. dunno about now since i just started comin' down to visit recently. there isn't a dance floor. i know there were even live bands comin' down to play some music last year. i dunno if they still have that now. and no dress code in effect as i recall.

the nacho supremes were very good last year. this year, it just doesn't taste the same. by returning to UL temporarily, i'm trying to bring the old nacho supreme back. if the price has raised to 9 bucks, it's gotta worth the 9 bucks. that's what i think.

I haven't been there myself but the two girls I know who works there says its crap, its even more crap as of late with the place falling apart - lots of gangsta wannabes go there. Its like second choice for most people when it's full at Honest Lawyers.

I think HL is ok, more like a sports bar than the upscale bar its trying to be. But I guess there aren't really any other nicer bars in that Markham/Richmond Hill end of town.

I used to work at Urban Lounge and even I've stopped going there.
Thought I'd pay them a visit one day and sat at the patio for a bit. I turn around and I see this punk starting a fight outside. Not that it's unusual or anything but these guys fight on the parking area, just rollin' around. It's sad to see so much negative change to the place I once loved working at.

Nowadays, it's either Honest Lawyer's or Choco Red (also owned by friends of ours). I'm not into gambling as much but Choco Red does have poker tournaments on Sundays.
