Apparently its quite the delicacy in Quebec, and according to the article, there are quite a few butchers in Montreal that sell Horse meat.
Hmm, I should remember to pick up some next time I am in Montreal. Horses are apparently immune to BSE.

who's to say eating a horse or any other animal (other than humans) is any worse than a cow, pig or chicken?

Canada is a major supplier of horse meat. Bouvry Exports, a Calgary company, operates a horse slaughterhouse in Fort McLeod, AB. The meat is packed into airline cargo containers and flown out of Calgary airport around the world.

Did I say that? No.
I'm simply stating that people eat all sorts of things.

It's big in Italy. My thought is that if you eat any kind of meat, you have no right to frown upon the eating of any animal (other than humans, of course :) ), as long as the killing is done humanely.

i was refering to your statement of "people would eat just about anything :| "
and adding that there's nothing wrong with that, since anything that we can't eat is just due to our own perceptions that are different among people. it's not any more wrong to eat a dog/cat than a pig. not that i would eat a dog/cat.

usually people dont eat "useful" Animals.
Horses are used for carriage, Dogs can be used for hunting/sheep gathering etc.
so ppl dont eat them.
animals that are eaten are usually herbivores or omnivores.

Apparently horse meat give you lots of energy, they feed it to huskies during races.

I was at a japanese restaurant a year ago and I did eat raw horse meat (think raw beef sashimi but it's horse). It was actually quite tender, not tough at all. I was a little apprehensive at first but my dad said it was a certain part of the horse that tasted good and I admit that it was actually pretty good.

yah anyone can eat any type of meat, as long as the animals are being killed in a human way IMO.

Anyone tried human meat? I hear it's really tough, takes a lot of tenderizing to make it palatable.

it depends on the breed of humans. like north americans are a lot more tender due to lifestyle and high fat diet. equivalent to kobe beef.
asians are less meaty and very lean and tough.

Horse meat? How could you eat that? I mean seriously, it used to be a living animal? How savage!
Tell you what...you barbarians can eat your horse meat, and leave beef and pork for us vegetarians...

Ate horse in Japan. Was up in Matsumoto (not too far from Nagano), where Horse is still a delicacy. As mentioned above, very thinly sliced and raw. Enjoyed it.
From my wife, "Don't eat pets!"...so yes, some people would be put off by eating horse.

If i had a chicken or duck as a pet, I would not be able to eat either of those..
I like cats & rabbits too.. I've eaten rabbit and it doesn't thrill me all that much. Same goes for Lamb.

I find the hypocrisy funny.. all these beef/chicken/lamb/pork/fish/shellfish..etc eaters have no qualms with killing and consuming those animals.. yet they will take up such argument against the eating of other certain animals.
Tell you what...you barbarians can eat your horse meat, and leave beef and pork for us vegetarians... EXACTLY!
