Wasabi is better than average sushi buffet. Its definitely not as good as sushi on the 7, but it’s much better than Sushi Hut. It's not even as good as T&T supermarket sushi (which is good). Service I must say is very good.
I think its the same people who own Dynasty Tea Cafe and ICook buffet.
I hope this puts it in some sort of perspective.

I was there recently. Their service sucks.
1. they take forever to deliver the food.
2. They want to kick us out even though they have not delivered the food we ordered. It was not we did not want to get out. It was we were still hungry. We are 2 adults and 2 kids.
3. They put a 2% surcharge for using credit card without informing us until we finished and going to pay the bill. I could not find the surcharge in their menu or anywhere. We may not even walk in if they post it on the door. Visa and master sign are on the door.
4. They charge you 10% for service by default.
5. They were busy and we really need to try to get a hold of a waitress to order stuff.
6. The waitresses were rude. They did not even smile.
I will not go there again.

You probably caught them on a bad day. I went once few months ago. Had decent exeperience. Food was nothing to brar about but at least the place has decent decor and comfortable for a dinner. Waitstaff was nice, but they were slow. The 10% tip is just standard anywhere you go for Chinese-run AYCE these days. It sucks.

I went to Wasabi today for lunch ~11:00am, March 13, 06' (empty when we arrived, filled up as we eat).
First impression:
Nicely designed, clean restaurant. So I wondered how they can supply AYCE sushi with reasonable quality and efficiently? (Price of lunch for 2 people = $30)
With lunch, the only sashimi they offer is Salmon (no white tuna, Hokkegai, surf clam, red snapper, Tamago, crab meat) also no grilled salmon belly or head.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_11-16.jpg
Sashimi:
The salmon was fantastic, fresh, and soft, like butta! (5/5)
Sushi:
Overall their sushi was good. In reference to their Nigiri Zushi (hand rolled sushi) it was excellent because it is simply a cut of meat on a ball of rice and their meats (Mackerel, white tuna, fish roe etc..) were all impeccably fresh and tasted amazing. The only problem I had here was the salmon rose which contained a flat tasteless sauce. And I ordered a bean curd pocket but I never received it. Btw, their sea eel and mackerel were really good) 4/5

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_12-40.jpg
Handrolls:
Their handrolls were good also, not great. A bit too much rice, delivered to warm made the sea weed paper soft too quickly thus not delivering the crunchy texture. Also, their cucumber slices were large and overpowering. However the sauces that they did use tasted great with the ingredients. I didn’t like the crunchy spicy hand roll, even though it was exactly that..crunchy and spicy. (3/5)
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_11-33.jpg
Sushi Pizza:
The personal tester for AYCE sushi restaurant quality for me. Wasabi's sushi pizza was reminiscent of a pre-packaged rice patty with minimal garnishing (like Sushi Hut's horrible sushi pizza) however never judge a sushi pizza by its cover?? umm.. it tasted great, probably the second best sushi pizza I have had. The outside was crunchy, inside was soft, not too much mayo; Simple and well done. (4/5)
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_11-40.jpg
Sushi Rolls:
Ok, this is Wasabi's weak point even though it’s what their restaurant is based on. Their sushi rolls pieces are small, like the size of a bottle cap. Their rice is a bit bland. They used small amount of ingredient with overpowering mayo based sauces that were also bland. The cucumber in the rolls were big, also overpowering the main ingredient thus, most rolls were indistinguishable from the next. *exception* their salmon skin in general was really good, tastes like it was barbequed, kind of a smoky. Also their house roll was interesting and quite tasty (in the picture, sushi surrounded by egg plant I think). (2.3/5)
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_11-241.jpg
Appetizers/Other items: Overall (2.5/5)
Shrimp tempura- not a lot of batter (good) overall tasty, but not as tasty as other places.
Squid tempura - looks and tastes like English fish and chips (greasy and deeeep fried)
Deep fried squid - tasted like cheese... weird?
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f201/demirchello/06-03-13_11-37.jpg
Beverages:
Diet coke :D - fountain but not flat
Green tea - tasty, sloppily poured.. ouch.
Service: 3/5
I must say the service was not too good. Even when the place was empty it was slower than say, when Sushi on 7 is half full. And when it eventually got busy, the service was slow. Imagine me getting bored and drawing pictures in the empty plate with Soya sauce. On the plus side, they only forgot ONE order (bean curd pocket). Btw, the waitresses were kind and friendly.
Overall:
Wasabi is an average sushi buffet. Raw materials are excellent, good supplier. Sushi chef is amateur, amateur sushi technique and sauces. I wouldn’t go again, because there are better places to spend the same money however if I was starving and the gas prices were unusually high that week, and I was passing it by, I would eat there. :D - for lunch.

I think T&T sushi tastes great! The rice is not too soft or dry, The flavors in the sauces, the meats are fresh and tasty. They are individually wrapped so they are quite fresh. Above average.. As opposed to Dominion sushi which is 1/10..loblaws sushi 5/10..T&T sushi 7.5/10..
You obviously had a bad experience beacuse it was very busy.. but yah, their rice is soft, sushi is small and bland, and their fried items are not too good.

Doesn't everyone realize that the "quality" they are getting is in fact toxic. Once pure sushi has been exploited. Look at how many AYCE sushi restaurants have popped up in the last year. It's frightening. Our NATURAL fish supply is depleting and AYCE restaurants use toxic, antibiotic pumped, artificially coloured farmed fish. So, the next time you decide to order a kilo of salmon sashimi to devour...remember this.

Anyone who thinks T&T's sushi is tasty and deserves to be called sushi, must eat microwaved hot dogs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

so what's the best AYCE sushi place in Scarborough/Pickering area? I used to go to Sushi on 7 and then switched to Yang's Sushi Bar just down the street but these are a bit far for me.
*edit* since this is a thread for Wasabi's I started my own thread here (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3056067#post3056067)

So true. What passes for "sushi" these days is pretty pathetic. T&T "sushi" is the equivalent to a really bad frozen tv dinner. But hey, there must be enough suckers eating it cuz they keep on churning it out...

Above quote is absolutely gibberish. Come on, majority of these Chinese owned Japanese restaurants have extremely bad service. Wasabi restaurant has good food, and enviroment is nice, a lot of tables and space. One of the worse service I have ever had, not once, not thrice but three times!! They serve their food so slow and if they don't have a certain food, they will not notify you, you'll just to find out yourself by asking. I once waited 45 mins after I realize they didn't have anymore Grilled Eggplants! People, never ever go during lunch time, if you plan on going during Lunch, be prepared to wait for a good half an hour per each order. When I was there, everyone around me was complaining and were so upset. Their service is so slow and unorganized. On top of that, you have to pay for a 10% mandatory tips. This is just ridiculas. If anyone would like to go dine at a all you can eat Jap Restaurant, I recommend Japan du Maison on Woodbine instead. The service is not much better but at least you get your food in an instance. Bottom line, if you do plan on going to Wasabi, be ready to get really upset.

Yup, have to agree to this, I've eaten the T&T Sushi a few times, never actually like it, but hey when you spend an hour in the supermarket and you are hungry, it's an ok choice.... I do think it's better than Frozen food though but make sure you finish it the same night you bought it.

Its hit or miss with this AYCE (not ACYE).
IT really depends on the waiter/waitress, sometimes they forget your orders.. other times they are great.
The times they were good, it was worth the money.
