Question about car paint jobs, body kits, etc...

Alright, I have the option of buying my moms 2000 Honda Civic SE (its 4 door, automatic, although, no power windows which I really want, but its got power locks / keyless entry if you will, its pretty much everything basic :().

Anyways, I am offering her $3500-$4000 for the car when I register for this electrician apprenticeship program... my question is, since the gar is like a forest green and i dont like it, there is a nice little crack in the back bumper from when someone hit and ran off on me @ the mall (didn't know until i left the mall one day)...

what I do want however is to have the car painted a dark cherry red for say, now, since the back bumper has a crack / is damaged... how much would an aftermarket rear bumper cost... how much would a full body kit cost for this type of car (with or without side-skirts) and again, how much would it be (roughly) to have these parts painted (obviously the same colour)...

also, window tinting... REALLY dark, the kind of dark thats almost illegal, how much does this usually run?

thanks for anyone who helps me out with this, obviously im not going to do all of this one full swoop, im just lookin for an estimate cost of how much it would be to do this...

are there any canadian places (preferably toronto, ontario and/or pickering) that do this...? and / or do they have a website?

A proper paint job will cost you about 2-3 grand, fitment of body kits really depends on how easy it is to install (often times rear bumpers need to be modeled on and require extensive work)

Your best bet is to take your car in for an estimate at Nicly Done AUtobody 416 690 1711 they painted my car pearl white and it came out great.

Tinting is about $175-$200 depending on the car, the degree of tint (how dark) does not cost any less or more unless you get that tacky silver stuff.

Keep in mind, paint is a TERRIBLE thing to invest in

within 4 months of my paint job I had 2 newspaper boxes scratch my car (newspaper company paid me for damages)

and a hit and run driver (after hunting them down through posting posters around the scene I got some money for it)

keep in mind your re-investing the entire amount of the car into paint, and when you get a paint job the world magically becomes attracted to your car.

Expect rock chips, door dings, dents and scratchs. If you plan on driving your car through the winter you will get a signifigant amount of rock chips.

Just came back from quebec and aftermarket paint chips alot easier then most oem paint.

save your money and don't mod your 4-door automatic sedan. It won't look good and it is pretty much a waste of money. Save the money for down the road when you can get a sports car.

paint is a large investment as previously stated by others. You will get dings, scratches, rock chips etc. Save your money and get a better car with the colour you want down the road.

Hey, I had mine done at Audio Heaven as well. It was during the summer when they had their special. The job was decent, tint was good but the application wasn't superb. There were some scratches on the tint exposing the window (very tiny) and I asked Jeff to re-apply the tint. At the time, he told me he was really busy and would get back to me. Never did. I called to follow-up, told me he would again get back to me but again never did. Now it is the winter, probably can't do anything unless the tint starts to bubble. So overall it was an average experience/product.

Drive the civic to the ground..the money you save from 'modding' the car (around what $5k+?) you can put that towards a newer car for the future.

Car are not a good investment.

id you do decide to get a body kit, keep it tasteful for the sakes of not being labelled a ricer, and keep in mind it will run about $1000 at least for the fitment and labour costs to install it. thats not including the kit. you might also have to get aftermarket wheels and tires to match it, overall you're going to spend the same amount of money on
modding the car compared to what you're paying for it.

but here is a nice example u might want to go with, its a Mugen Lip kit for teh Civic Ferio (sedan), pricey but it will get you looks

a full kit w/ skirts could cost from around 400USD(ebay) to over 3000USD(import genuine c-one or veilside r wutever etc)

be weary about a lot of ebay ones because the fitment will suck (since they are most likely molded from kits that there molded from another kit that was molded from another kit etcetcetc)

Yup, well said. Modding a civic is such a waste of money and a joke. Don't become one of those "ricers". In the end, it's just a 2000 civic.

If you are planning to dump money in that car, say $5-6k, why not just trade it in (you will most likely get more than $4k for it, depending on mileage) for a better used car, the money you want to put in for modding can be the monthly payment for it. I assume you are making money now, so financing a few grand wouldn't be a problem, if spending that much modding isn't. You can pick whatever car and colour you want. At least you will have power window. :D

another thing, if you do decide to get a body kit (which I suggest you dont because they look REALLY tacky imho) make sure you look into what kind of material it is. Some materials are EXTREAMLY prone to rock chips.

If I were you id just get a decent set of rims and call it the day.
