Hey all,

I'm about to purchase a car within the next 2 weeks, and have decided on 2 particular vehicles. Either a 2003 Infinity G35 coupe w/ sports pkg or a 2003 Nissan 350z performance. The price range and km's are around the same and I dont have to worry about the insurance and such. Right now, I'm debating whether I should get G35 or 350z. Personally, I like the 350z more, but it's a 2-seater, which is not as practical. So please give me some feedbacks or opinions on each car and which car you would prefer and such, thanks alot!

Mike

 the G35 (according to your choices) will be a 2-seater as well.

the G35 coupe has backseats, so the car fits 4 ppl.

G35 has 4 seats while 350Z only has 2 seats

Remember to check the brake of the G35 when you purchase it (the brake pads of G35 worn out pretty fast). It's a common problem for 2002-2004 G35. I believe 2005/6 G35 has a new brake system. Other than that, G35 is a great car with exceptional speed (real fast) and handling (I am a owner of G35 sedan). You will love it :)

Moreover, all infiniti comes with 4years/100,000kms bumper-to-bumper, 6years/110,000kms powertrain warranty. While Nissan only comes with 3years/60,000kms bumper-to-bumper and 5 years/100,000kms powertrain warraty.

oops nevermind... I saw the word 'impractical' and automatically applied it to all 2 door cars :D

What kind of horsepower does the G35 or G35x have? And is the non "X" version FWD or RWD?

Major difference btwn it and the Maxima?

Power, cost, features....etc etc.

Thanks.

the 2005 g35 has 280 hp /270 tq. The earleier ones were 260hp / 260 tq.

The 2005 6 speed has an extra 298 hp.

The g35, 350z, and maxima use all the same engine. the vq35de, a very good engine. The main difference between the g35 and maxima is the maxima is front wheel drive while the g35 is rwd. the g35x is the best of both worlds, awd.

Good look choosing the right car!

I love the G35 I would suggest that car cause its a better year round car then the 350, If you were going to go with a 2 seater, I would suggest taking a look at a RX8, IMO those are better cars then the 350, but in the end decision is up to you, you should also look at insurance prices, 2 door cars always cost more

I would definitely get the G35 for the extra seats.

I was looking at getting a two seater when I was looking to buy a car, but Im really glad I got the rear seats.

At the time I didnt think I would need the extra seats, but Ive had the car for a number of years and there are countless times where I needed to give more then 1 person a ride. You might also piss off your friends, because they might have to drive all the time because you only have a two seater.

A two seater is good for a second car, but its not practical as your only car.

The G35's suspension is a joke. It has no feel of a 'sports car'. Reconsider.... I suggest the IS 300. The budget there shouldn't be too bad.

The G35 coupe comes with sport package so I assume it should have the 'Sport-Tuned suspension'. And you can get the NISMO suspension to replace the stock suspension.

I test drove the G35 last year and aside from that I own an is300. There is just too much of a difference, the 'sport-tuned' suspension is not stiff at all, feels bouncy and loose all the time. There's no grip when making hard turns.. I was very disappointed as i was originally planning to trade in my car to purchase the G35 Coupe. Now, I'm just waiting for the new IS to drop in price.

Why replace to Nismo while you can drive stock sports suspension from Lexus :cheesygri

You are joking right? I sold my new 2004 IS300 w/ Sport Design II package (sport tuned springs and shocks) and now have a 2005 G35 coupe M6 Sport package. Let me tell you the G35 tuning feels 100% more sportier than the Lexus package. However Lexus quality is unbeatable, that's for sure.

Anyways to answer the original poster, ultimately it comes down to the 2 seats in the 350z or the 2+2 seats in the G. Either car you choose, both cars offer tremendous bang for the buck.

Oh btw, a common comparison between the 350z and the G35 coupe is the "350z is the younger, more athletic brother of the refined, suit-wearing g35 coupe." So take your pick

I agreee with Pete00! Z's target is younger driver than G35C. ( May be the reason of the price is little cheaper ). But you have to check the gear box if manual car! I heard someone complaint about the gearbox which is not smooth, only for 03 to 04 model! :)

I also agree with this.

Also if you are tall and big, 350 maybe uncomfy. I'm not exceptionally tall (6'1) but I don't find sitting in my buddies 350 very comfortable. I can't see it as a daily driver.

The G35 Coupe is damn sexy though and also very comfy. I'd go for that.
Plus you are now an official balla status. hehe

my ex-gfs father had a 2003 (i think it was, it might have been 2004) G35 2-door, sports package and all, its a ****ing AWESOME car to be in, obviously I wasn't allowed drivign it, which is a good thign cuz i would fly in that thing, it was standard and sounded ****ing sweet when he accelerated. although the 350Z is a sweet looking car and im gguessing its faster and sounds nicer inside and all, i say the G35 because i've been in one a couple of times but its up to you.

It all depends on your lifestyle. I have 2 rear seats and never use them. Do you have alot of stuff to take around with you that won't fit in the front seat with you. My biggest complaint with the Z is the non existant storage space. But if you ride alone alot, go with the Z. I personally like the style of the Z but the G is more practical.

It's a hard choice man. While I am attracted to the 350z for its masculinity, I'd probably go with a G35C because it's more practical(AWD, classy looks, more space, comfort). If you consider youself a car enthusiast, get the 350z instead though.

as much as I love the G35 its just too common, though the 350z isn't the most rare car either I would probably just go for the 350z.

Both are great cars

Nearly every Infiniti/Nissan uses the same V6.
Its a fantastic engine.

Theres a class action lawsuit against Nissan for the 2003-2004 350Z.
Infiniti never had this problem. They do, however have some problems with the Brembo brakes.

LINK (http://www.sheller.com/Practice.asp?PracticeID=145)

The complaint contains allegations that these vehicles suffer from suspension and alignment defects that result in premature wear, feathering, and cupping of the front tires. As a result, the 350z emits "an extremely loud tire roar or tire growl, especially when the vehicle is braking, traveling on a smooth road surfaces or cruising at speeds of 30 mph or less." Furthermore, the complaint charges that Nissan 350z owners and lessees have been forced to replace their front tires and service their vehicle's front-end alignment more often than is reasonably expected.

With the added seat controls, this 6'5" RFD'er can sit relatively comfortably in the drivers seat of the G35Coupe. Its a different story on the passenger side.
My wife really liked the car, so who am I to complain?
Besides, on long trips we take my Jetta desiel.

Still, its a nice change to sit behind the wheel of this thing....

Whats the price of the 03? My wife snapped up a an 04 with 17,000K and Pirelli winters on rims for $35K.

the G35 coupe has backseats, so the car fits 4 ppl.

The G35 basically has 2 front seats and those things you think are seats in the back are really a place to put your bags, purse, laptop etc. I don't see how anyone other than a baby can fit back there.

My future brother-in-law who is 6'1 could fit back there. Although he had to tilt his head slightly to the side it wasn't a problem.

I don't move them anymore. It is mind boggling, the fuse removed from the interior fuse box is clearly labeled "drl and trunk". That being said, the daytimes are disabled as hoped, the trunk light still works however, and the power seats became disabled...

I suggest you visit www.nissan.ca and www.infiniti.ca

There are too much differances for they are completely differant cars.
G35 = RWd, G35x = AWD ATTESA
Maxima = FWD

G35 is classified as a luxury sedan in the same group as. Acura TL/Lexus IS/Audi A4/BMW3/MB-C etc

Maxima is classified as, entry level luxury cars, grouped with Lexus ES/Passat/TSX etc

Altima is there Camry/Accord/Jetta competitor..

i think u get the point.

Thanks for the info..but we actually got out today and looked at the cars in person and test drove the IS250 and IS350.

The wife didn't care too much for the TL, said "it was just a car to her"

The G35x got a little better reaction...more room, more features that she wants/needs.

The IS250/350 she loved when looking at them on the showroom floor.

IS250 was kind of bland when driving it..however the IS350 was a complete blast. I think it's on the top of our list, but we are skeptical of going to a pure RWD platform. Considering this is a daily driver for her summer and winter, we want to be able to go up to Banff in summer and winter, and possibly drive thru the mountains thru the winter...has been a long time since I've owned a RWD, my wife never has.

Next step is to test drive the G35x and see how it stacks up....

not sure if you are aware, but the IS250 does come in an AWD platform as well. since you are looking into the G35x awd platform, it would be fair to look at the is250 awd as well.

Just as a side note, I drive a lot of G35's in the line of work I am in but last night I finally had an oppurtunity to try out the G35 (sedan unfortuantly) in 6 speed manual.

WOW. One short throw gear box and one of the most delicate clutches Ive ever driven (And ive driven many highend cars in stick)

Very nice car, but let off that clutch lightly its no civic ;)

PLEASE DO NOT GET THIS CAR IN AUTO

and as I side note with RWD, I drive many RWD cars and the traction control systems they have in place now really do a good job to avoiding fish tails.

Yes, we did test drive the 250 first...and found right off the bat that it was kind of boring, nice but boring. Then this was confirmed AFTER taking the 350 out on the same route as we did the 250, the 250 is definitely boring after driving the 350, those extra 100 horses really make a difference :)

Someone mentioned to NOT get the G35 in auto?? You don't have a choice if you go with the G35x, it only comes in AUTO.

I'm skeptical going pure RWD for a daily driver for the wife, she'll be driving the DEERFOOT quite a bit here in Calgary everyday, and we know we'll be making trips out to Banff and probably across the mountains in the winter...wonder how a pure RWD will handle those conditions.

both those sedans do come with some sort sability./traction CONTROL computer.. unfortuneatly, u cannot turn it off in the ISx50, but it is a button away in the G35 for tail happy.
