One-Way Car Rental from Canada to USA

Does anyone know if there are any car rental companies in Ottawa/Montreal that allows me to rent the car in Ottawa/Montreal and drop it off in New York (JFK Airport). I called the local dealerships, (Hertz, Entreprise, Thrifty) and they don't seem to allow it.

If you have any experience with renting a car in Canada and dropping it off in USA, please post your experience.

local car rental places like you found out will not allow it for sure. you can try corporate locations (e.g. a hertz at airport or the any of the big places airport location and price it) but since you are dropping off in another country, the drop off fee will be huge regardless.

I asked about doing this at one of the other rental agencies, I think National or Budget, and their one-way charge was more than the rental. They charge $0.50/km away from the original rental location. This was from Edmonton to Vancouver. Distance is 1500km, so the return charge is $750.

So, prepare to pay big time for a 1-way rental.

Pickup YYZ, dropoff BUF.... $90/day, no drop charge for a full size at Hertz.

You might want to try breaking up the rental into 2 separate ones: YOW to SYR, SYR to LGA/JFK/EWR.
