I just booked a flight for three people going to TAMPA from DETROIT direct flight both ways (avg $450/person). Anyways I will be spending most time in Clearwater area and was hoping to get some peoples ideas on places to go. Thanks

should of checked flights out of Buffalo,,,,, www.airtran.com has flights almost daily that go for $59-80 each way

Tampa aquarium is apparently a good spot. most of the beaches are nice,, or take a trek towards sarasota ,,,, siesta key beach

Go to Sand Key Beach - great for collecting shells. Eat at one of the many Frenchy's restaurants for seafood. For Cuban food, try the Columbia Restaurant. Stay away from downtown as it's full of scientologists being brainwashed (they own half the buildings downtown).

There's a place I can't remember now but they have a great happy hour.

Holy crap, $450/person for the flights???

I hate to bring it up since you've already purchased the tickets, but that seems extremely high.

Not sure when OP is going but fares to Florida seem to inflate in March. I used that link you posted and to get to Miami and back the last week in March is $124 each way + taxes.

True.. I guess if it's a hot time for northerners to head south, prices would skyrocket.

wookie,

see my earlier post to markdude's inquiry
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251772

not a whole lot to recommend clearwater proper (unless you're a scientologist, it's their world headquarters and they own like half of the downtown), but keep to the beach!

also, if you're going to be in tampa-bay area in march, you might want to go check out the blue jays spring training in dunedin (a few miles north of clearwater)
...here's the game schedule:
http://www.springtrainingonline.com/teams/toronto_blue_jays_4.htm

also, downtown dunedin still has some of that Old Florida small and sleepy town feel.
plus it has several good restaurants and bars on Main Street:
*Casa Tina's for vegetarian-inspired (but not exclusively veg) semi-authentic mexican
* Skip's Bar and Grill, an atmospheric watering hole in a former gas station (it's cooler than it sounds!)

cheers,
michael

p.s. oh yeah, if you're somewhat exercise-inclined, you can get back and forth between clearwater, dunedin, and all the way down to st. petersburg by bike or roller-blade on the Pinellas Trail recreational train along an old railway right-of-way:
