Other than points? Or is that it? Their website seemed to offer only points yet I've read on tripadvisor about free breakfasts etc. Anyone signed up?

You get to double dip, i.e. get hilton points AND your airline miles for the same stay (or more pts alone or more airline miles alone, you choose)
as for free breakfast? well, if you stay x nights in a yr (dont know how many exactly, check plan details) you'll reach status levels; with a gold/platinum status, they'll upgrade you to a club room where there's free breakfast and evening cocktails
then again, everyone gets free breakfast & evening cocktails when they stay at an Embassy Suite

There's no harm to join; it's not like they do a credit check
Sometimes they give u a nicer room (i.e. higher floor) when you're part of their rewards program (SPG aka sheraton/westin has SPG Floors that are usu bigger than their normal rooms)

At the very least, sign up for all of the programs and select the option of collecting airmiles such as Aeroplan (Air Canada)...every little bit helps.

I worked at a Hilton for a few years. The basic blue card gets you your points (either just hotel points or hotel AND airline points) but thats about it. The Silver card MAY get you a free upgrade on your room depending on hotel occupancy and of course the points. The Gold and Diamond cards will get you guaranteed upgrades or a free breakfast if the hotel is unable to give you the upgrade. Earnings wise you get more points as well the higher in card status you are and also the Gold and Diamond members definately get treated better by all staff. Managers always make exceptions for these members.
Its a free program why not sign up, only 4 stays gets you that silver !!

Like previous posters mentioned....There are different tiers in the Hhonours program. Basic, Silver, Gold, and Diamonds.
Once you have reached Diamonds and enjoyed the benefits..Its hard to go back to just staying in a regular hotel...
To make those tiers, you have to stay # of nights or earn # of base points for the year...and you need to qualify for the status each and every year. Once you reach the threshold for the year, you get the status for the remaining year, and all of the following year...
To get to Diamonds level, you need 60 nights in a hotel per year. I usually stay in hotels over 200 nights a year....so I mix my stays with Hilton, and the Starwoods group to get to their top tier..
Here are some of the 'extra' benefits of being a diamond.
- 25% extra points
- access to special rewards. ie. you can stay 6 nights at a cat 6 hotel for just 175,000 points...
- Upgrades to the best available rooms at time of check-in, usually suites
- if no suite upgrade, when be given access to the Tower/executive level, which includes the Executive lounge that have free alcohol and food
- better treatment from staff
- at Starwoods, Platinums also get to checkout at 4pm instead of 12pm..
I used my points in HHonours to travel through Paris/London for our honeymoon last october.
I stayed 8 nights at the Paris Hilton and Hilton Arc d'Triumph.....and both stays they upgraded us to a huge 1 bedroom suite in the executive floor.
With the executive lounge, I got free full breakfast, they had lunch, afternoon snacks, appetizers, desserts...and drinks/alcohol throughout the day....
