I’m applying for Ontario’s G1 driving exam next week. Part of the exam includes an eye test.
My eye sight is rather week. I have ocular albinism which has made me suffer from high astigmatism and nystagmus. However, I can still pursue a very very normal life and I managed to adapt well to my conditions. My only concern is that I don’t usually do well in eye tests (even with my glasses on) and I was wondering how I can pass the eye test or what happens if I cannot pass it? I know that driving isn’t an issue at all for me. I’m just worried that the eye test might be an unnecessary obstacle.
Anyone have any advice regarding the eye test in my case?

when I took mine they just asked me to read a license number at about 20 feet and then said OK

That doesn't sound so bad :)
I hope it's the same here in Kingston

Nothing much to worry about. It's just a quick and simple eye test. "Read this line for me please", "Next line", etc etc. Then a blinking on your left/right to check your basic peripheral vision, that's about it. Bring your glasses and you should be fine

Good luck, did you try the test on line its very easy I did it lots of times on line and got 100% when I did the actual test, don't forget to take the correct identification with you or they will not let you take it.

go to the young drivers website. The Eye test is a joke, I didnt even have to read anything, I put my face on this thing and they asked me what eye the light was flashing in, left or right.

To put it rather bluntly, if you can't pass this eye test, not only are you legally blind, but you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a deadly weapon.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you can see ~100 feet away somewhat clearly...you'll be fine. If you can't, you'd be a hazard on the road.

Well if it's just reading large text 20 feet away then it's fine but if it has to do with reading all these tiny "E"s then it's tough and I don't see how these "E"s would have anything to do with my driving ability

its pretty easy man, you put ur face into this virtual reality like headset its kinda cool. but anyway if you can see out of the corners of your eyes jus a lil bit then ur going to be fine. they flash the lights on either ur left or right n u say which one. Then they display letters or numbers far away in this thing and make you read it. as long as you know left from right and you can see far away then your good man don't worry about it its not that hard. I think you're over thinking this relax you'll do fine

man my eye test was worse than the G1 test. they made me read several lines of letters that shrank to incredible sizes that only super man could read. they did the blink test too. i cant believe some of you guys only had to read a license plate a few feet away.
