What happens to Avatars in RFD...? seem to become graphic squares

I'm puzzled...why do Avatars in your signature become these kinda cool colourful graphic squares after awhile ? :?:

i kept my corrupted one for a while...I liked it better than the original...but I recently picked a new avatar...any comments?

If you have a corrupted avatar, please replace it. Corrupted avatars are a suspected source of reported crashes while using RFD (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252378).
