Frank and Gordon - The Bell Beavers

This is a hot topic with some people I know, but I'm wondering what people at large think of Bell's new mascots: Frank & Gordon. They've been all over the TV.

Some people are angry that they used Norm Macdonald after he gave up his Canadian citizenship because of the Iraq war.

I just thing the commercials are poor quality and do nothing for brand recognition. I know its for Bell but for the life of me I can't remember which division. BCE's gotta do a bit more to turn around their business other than putting some talking beavers on the tube.

Politics aside... when the series first came out, I was utterly annoyed by those guys. But (sadly?) the new ones are growing on me and some are pretty funny

Does it have much, or even anything, to do with Bell? I'd say very little. But that's what marketing all about. They've done enough to leave an image at people's heads and for that, I think they have succeeded

not very good branding, it took for ever to even realize what company they were plugging, one of the worst campaigns Ive seen in a long time.
I think they need new marketing people.

Are these new permanent mascots? Or just for the Olympics?

I've been seeing the commercials a lot during the Olympics so I thought it might just be a temp thing.

Also seeing the Tim Hortons and Bombardier commercials a lot as well.

I think Bell has something up their sleeve. Their current marketing campaigns suck so much you have to think they are preparing you for something good. Lower the standards and expectations of people and then blow them away by a real campaign.

at least with those you automatically attach a product/service to it. i've never sat through an entire beaver commercial yet so i still have no idea what kinda crappy service bce wants to lure the public into buying.

Well, that's because they've been using this campaign for so long. *If* Bell sticks with Frank and Gordon for a while, wouldn't it be the same as how you'd associate Fido when you see a commerical with a dog, and Telus with little animals?

I like them. Commercials are at least mildly funny, which means my time isn't wasted completely by watching them. I don't really care what they're trying to sell or if they're successful in that task.. I watch tv to be entertained, damn it!

The "pixel people" campaign isn't much different from this one insofar as it's not immediate as to what company they're talking about, but once you've seen one, you know exactly who it's for. They've also extended this campaign to all services (Sympatico, ExpressVU, mobility) and I imagine they'd do the same with these beavers.

For the record, I think the bell mobility one with the cheetah and rabbit was funny! And I know funny! I don't care what anyone else says :D

Frank and Gordon are "mates" living together. They are more homosexual than Bert and Ernie. They look fake, and the jokes are lame.

The problem with the olympics is all the commercials and a lot of them are the same. RBC to me is far too serious and a bore to watch but at least the bell and McHappy ones have a bit of humour but at this point they are all long in the tooth(no pun intended frank)
