I don't think anything can be expected of him or his colleagues. They just don't know how to handle anything at all. All talk and then fail at everything single thing. Bin Laden, Iraq, Katrina, hunting......

I remember some of those analysts saying that Bush would not have to be aware of the deal unless it was believed to be a threat to national security.
Some more digging would probably bring up more info as to why.

it's simply too funny. conspiracy theorists accuse him of being in league with the terrorists. bush then goes to villify every arab, but now says it's okay to let them control high security risk facilities like marine ports, through which weapons, drugs and even terrorists can be brought in......
this administration is beyond stupid.

bush blah blah blah about terrorism but his administration sells various ports for 6.8 billion to dubai ports world of the uae, to pay some bills most likely.....BUT there is a bush nominee (big surprise  ) for the maritime admin. david sanborn who was head of operations of dubai ports world in latin america.....basically some more cronyism putting america a risk while lining the pockets of his friends.

are you suggesting that a very wealthy millionaire (was he a billionaire?) like Bin Laden wouldn't risk it either? or perhaps Saddam?
the fact is you know nothing of the Dubai company, they may be alright, but it's still a stupid move to make right now.

I'm from the US, but I have to say that it makes a lot of mistakes. It's so funny how Cheney shot his friend, he's so stupid.

Sorry to stray from the topic, but that was the worst piece of grammar I've ever seen. I've read your post three times now, and still don't really have a good idea of what you're trying to say here.

Coles Notes?
The deal appears to be on the up and up, from a security point of view. The DHS will still be in charge of inspecting cargo.. and the Committee on Foreign Investments approved the deal from a security perspective. The UAE is a US ally in the war on terror.

not really a big deal. trying to equate Dubai (or the UAE) with the other Arab countries (like Saudi Arabia) is downright hilarious and only goes to further prove the ignorance of RFD posters...

And the shoe bomber was a British citizen. And the Khadr's are Canadian citizens. My point is, just because a terrorist is a citizen of a certain country, does not mean the terrorist agenda is supported by government nor by popular opinion. What's yours?

saudi arabia, pakistan, and the uae were the only countries to recognize al qaeda as the legitimate government of afghanistan.

Ya, funny how he says they were such a threat, and now he's letting them control what goes in and out of the US via the ports. So if they wanted to slip in a nuke, then they probably could now...
I don't think Bush is stupid. In fact, he's very smart, which only leads me to beleive that somehow he's tied in with the terrorists and that he's covering something up...Obviously he's making money, and by that I don't mean the $250,000 US salary as president. I think he's got MILLIONS from bushleague (no pun intended) operations...
He's trying to clean his hands of any wrongdoings. He's got some sort of a hidden agenda...

so many hilarious nuggets in this thread...
- Al-Qaeda was once the legitimate government of Afghanistan? news to me :D
- Dubai and the UAE == terrorists? (people using words like "they" referring to them) again, news to me :D
I guess if you guys think Dubai/UAE = terrorists, that means the world's best (or second best) airline is a Terrorist Airline, since it's a national airline of the UAE... rofl
Thank you RFD for demonstrating that many of the "Morons of 2005" (see other thread) are right here...

Why did Hagbard get banned this time?
I know Hagbard is very strong in his/her stance, but he/she never seemed very offensive, compared to much of the other crap by some users, which is allowed.
I'd make a thread in Comments&Suggestions asking why, but it would probably get deleted like my other thread was.

i didn't say it was a legitimate gov't just that saudi arabia, pakistan, and the uae recognized it as the gov't of afghanistan.......read the 9/11 report.

yes mistake on my part but there is no denial that they were attached at the hip. before al qaeda arrive the taliban was not concerned with the usa only local matters. but when al qaeda arrive things changed then there are the camps and whatnot.
nonetheless you have to question bush's motives on the war when allies like the saudis, pakistan and the uae have more ties than iraq to bin laden.

It's funny how Bush didn't know about the port deal in his own country, having been approved by his own administration, but he insisted he knew Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, which, until today have yet to be found
You know he's up to no good. He's the world's most powerful liar.

House panel defies Bush, votes to block ports deal
The 62-2 decision reflects GOP furor over contract
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060309/NEWS07/603090541/1009
The landslide vote was the strongest signal yet that more than three weeks of White House efforts to stunt congressional opposition to the deal have not been successful.
Bush has promised to veto any such measure passed by Congress. But there is widespread public opposition to the deal, and the GOP fears losing its advantage on the issue of national security in this fall's elections.
The White House said the president's position was unchanged.
