THAT I believe is true, though I haven't really noticed.
Seen a girl geared in A&F with the bag this past week while attending a lecture (Ryerson).
She's either holding onto her bag from her order or ... just made a purchase.

Just so you know, Abercrombie never has any sales. It's always been like that.
I was never impressed with the AF stores in the US. I find it too overpriced for average-quality clothes. I wouldn't pay $40 for a T-shirt.

correct ! it is in eaton center, and the store layout is exactly the same as A&F's in the states. the clothes are somewht the same, although the states last year actauly had some nice A&F stuff i would sport. but the clothes are kinda pricey
and grand opening, i really doubt that they would have a sale, because people would buy their clothes regardless. the prices are around the same as a regular price FCUK stuff.

I've actually have gotten some cheap things at Old Navy but then again, everything is cheap when you're products are made in third world countries next to nothing.

Let me solve everyone's problems ...
Buy some "Abercrombie & Fitch" logos for material ...
Have it professional stitched on (that will cost you the $10)
Put it on any fleemarket sweatshirt ...
BAM, you're rockin' the latest.
Please, half that stuff can't even last 3 washes, you'll be wearing pants that you can't even wash because you'll screw the colours or shade.
Or your shirt might shrink :P
And wasn't last summer's style FULL of patches that look like they were sewn on ... so don't tell me I'm OFF ... pssh :P
The clothes industry is weird like that ...

Go to any person with a print press in any of these flee markets and you can get one for half the price ... but then I guess that calls for creativity and some effort, who would want that if you're buying a "Rolling Stones T" and you've only heard of "Rock This Way" lmfao ...

When I first went in there, I thought it was cause the clothes were so ugly that they had to dim the lights down so when you tried it on, it would atleast look half decent.

A&F will survive in the Canadian market because it's a highly sought after brand by the teenage/adolescent demographic. Old Navy was never highly sought after...Gap Inc. just decided it was time to introduce their third brand to Canada.
Looking foward to an A&F store in the GVR. :D And they DO have sales (similiar to Aritzia's "sales" though). The gf picked up a nice plain top for $10 USD last time we went down, which is decent for the type of top, and an even better deal for the brand.
If you're not a fan of brand shopping (not too many RFDers are, and for good reason), then this store is not for you. For those who are fans of the A&F brand, this is like heaven for them. I believe they're opening one up in WEM as well (West Ed.).

I used to like A&F clothes a few years ago... then I sorta turned off on it with all those clothes that look like they haven't been ironed in a million years, full of rips and tears. Just couldn't see myself paying 100 bucks for a pair of faded ripped jeans... Maybe I'm getting old, but why are most of their clothes like that now... same with AE and Guess?

A&F is already expensive in the US and now they bring it here and with the exchange rate and taxes price ends up being more expensive...might as well buy other brands (like stussy, x-large, fred perrry etc.) for that price.

Bordello...what's the difference between and end-of-season sale and an end-of-season clearance?? The end-result is the same. Lots of stock being sold for less than the original selling price.
We always try to time a trip to A&F with the big end-of-season sales/clearances.
For the record, there are four chains under the "Abercrombie and Fitch" corporate umbrella:
abercrombie: kids
Abercrombie and Fitch: college-preppy-casual
Hollister: high school-demographic version of A&F
Ruehl: upmarket post-college urban (and bloody expensive - gorgeous stores though)
And there did used be an Abercrombie and Fitch in Toronto, way back in the 80's when they were still part of The Limited.

Not sure what the big deal is about these two stores. I visited the A&F at Sherway a couple of weeks ago as I was passing by and it was just like AE just more expensive. i mean they are selling they same type of look or style, which to be honest is a little to "O.C" for me. I mean in regards to mens clothing all I saw were jeans and t-shirts that try to hard to be clever. I had already visited a couple of A&F stores i nthe states and so I wasn't really surprised.
The same for Hollister, which in fact I disliked even more then A&F. This store has to have one of the worst layouts ever. It just screems of trying to hard. God forbid that one of their stores ever catches fire b/c it is a b!tch to get out of. It so friggin' dark and the music is so loud, it's sort of annoying.
I have to say that bboth stores to me scream of a "wanna be" style. It just seems to packaged, and too overpriced for what you're getting.

I think part of the attraction to AF for some people in Canada was that it was sort of difficult to get. You either had to get it online, or go to the states. Well now that it's here, I think it makes it somewhat less special. And why do I keep reading "Abercrombie" and "Gay" in the same sentence?

Personally A&F is nothing special to me. Their style is exactly the same as Hollister only double the price. Also the fact that I asked if they had any jeans without holes in it and the woman told me no. I can't stand pre-torn jeans!
I just don't see a point in shopping there if I can get the same thing from Hollister for half the price. I've picked up a pair of jeans and a couple t-shirts from Hollister just cause they have the same fit as AE, and I really prefer the softness of their t-shirts as opposed to anywhere else.
Oh I've also got the Jake cologne, GF got it for me for Valentine's Day, smells good!

"The company's playful, homoerotic marketing made Abercrombie & Fitch a destination for the gay market in the late 1990s, though the company denies that it ever made a concerted effort to market to gay customers."

Saw a 60 Minutes episode that featured a lawsuit against them claiming they only hired blond, blue-eyed, all "American" kids. Add that to their over-priced stuff & I'm not interested in the least bit.

ROOTS is Canadian and the head office is located in Toronto as it always has been. They have a leather factory here in Toronto as well. ROOTS was a better olympic outfitter then the BAY who are doing it now. Abercrombie and Fitch a long time ago had a retail store in the First Canadaian place. Closed a long time ago. Still have sweatshrts from there. Was expensive way back when. Somethings never change.

You are correct, Ralph Lauren owns them.
RL owns Roots? HAHAhAHAHAHAHA!
Thats one of the most incorrect statements I've seen on here in a long time.
That's sooo funny.
Roots is a private company owned by 2 guys. They're American, but moved to Canada years ago, and live in the Toronto area.
For the record, RL owns Club Monaco / Caban.

for real, eh? Damn coz I was told that A&F is higher end of AE...so I guess it was wrong then...but ya A&F owns hollister...
I believe AE belongs to the same company of The Children Place. A&F and Hollister is the same company.

I don't think Children's Place and AE are related. They're traded as two separate companies (PLCE and AEOS).
I'm so happy AF is in Canada although I wish we had kids :P lol because it's cheaper. The prices are kind of a shocker though. I think all these years of seeing the price in USD and doing the conversion in my head buffered the prices a bit instead of seeing it flat out on the tag in CAD.

We have an A&F in west edmonton mall... same ol expensive crap.
I was in an A&F outlet store in Ft Lauderdale, basically shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of other shoppers sorting through a mess of a store.
I figured with all these people there were some mad deals to be had. I was quite wrong and wasted 20 minutes of my life just trying to get out of the store.

Yeah, I saw that too. It was on a couple of years ago. Some university kids sued A&F because they were saying that they got fired from their jobs because they didn't have the A&F "image" (blond hair and blue eyes). A&F settled the case with them, don't remember the exact amount they got but it was quite a bit. Since the lawsuit they have started hiring a lot more people from different races. Saw a couple of chinese girls working at the Sherway location when I was there.
It's true how they hire for image though, I was in New York location (5th avenue) shopping during New Year's and the store manager asked me if I wanted a job there cause she said I had the right look. Told them I live in Toronto and she offered to hook me up at Sherway but I told her it was really far for me (live in North York and no car). She then told me they were planning to open ALOT of locations in Toronto so she could hook me up wherever it was closest to me. I told her I would only take the job if it pays more than $20/hour (what im currently making) HAHAHAHA i guess you can tell I'm not working there now. :D
Anyone who really likes A&F clothes but thinks its too expensive and is heading down to San Fran soon should check out the outlet they have there. Not sure of its exact location but they sell the exact same stuff as the stores (current season's stuff) for more than 50% off. My friend was down there and said all the polo's and dress shirts were only $19.50. His stuff was the exact same stuff that we saw in the store (when in NY) selling for $49.50.
