So, I don't know if this has been suggested in the past, or how exactly it would be implemented, but it seems like a sweet idea to me.

I don't really follow the 'Hot Deals' section, as I don't have the disposable income to be a regular there, but I know I've seen (particularly around Boxing Day), where you guys have scans of flyers from the big box stores.

What I'd like is some kind of notification (email or pm), that alerts me when a supermarket has a particular item in their flyer, whether it be by company name or actual product.

For example, on the way I'm home I was thinking that I'd like to know when any store has those Sidekick things on sale. So, I guess how it would work, is that someone would either just go through the flyers (and I think people are doing that anyways), and fill out a quick database of the item (ie. Company: Sneiders, Item: Hotdog). You have some sort of 'alert' that each user can use if they want, and if an item in the database matches the alert, they get sent a quick email with a link to the thread, or link to the flyer.. whatever. You guys could also throw in 'Other hotdeals this week', with links to your sponsors, or whatever.

To me, it doesn't seem like a huge amount of work, and I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble getting someone to volunteer, since they're posting deals from the flyers anyways..

Anyways, just something on my wish list. :)

That seems like it would take a lot of work to do.

A lot of people just post pics of the flyers, so they would have to be converted, using OCR software, to text. Then RFD would have to automatically scan every single person's profile to see if they have a keyword listed that matches one in the flyer, then PM all those people.

I can't imagine anything like that ever being implemented.

There are a few companies who do this sort of thing, but they charge a lot, so it's usually the retailers who hire them.
