Seeing that in the "Hot Deals" forum that everyone is now/still looking for these nearly extinct older revision of this router, I figured I can help someone out in this area.

I just came back from staples and managed to get hold of the last two version 3's of the WRT54G. The serial number is CDF8. I only need one of them, so the second one is for sale for the same price I got it for. If anyone is interested, just send me a PM and we'll work something out.

NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE

Just curious, why is the older version more desireable?

they can be flashed with third party software to make them much faster.

The earlier versions can be flashed to third party firmware, and have better hardware specs. The V5 has some other issues as well; mine, for example, resolved the random disconnect caused by my Dlink, but mysteriously capped my download speed at 1mb. The V4 I eventually found works great though.

The third party firmware adds additional functionality, stability, and speed. Furthermore, it can change a regular "G" into a "GS".

Router is possibly pending ...

The router is on sale at BB this week so whoever buys it can PM with Staples. BB price $59.99 ( $20 instant $20 MIR ) Link (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10025695&catid=21119). I dont think Staples will PM a MIR but you can still get some money back.
