I need an older 486 mobo, processor and RAM ASAP. If you have anything 100MHz and below (yes, BELOW.....stop snickering, you in the back) please drop me a line.

I just need the parts, but a complete system is fine.

Thanks.

Are you from the future? Do you need the 486 for some essential component that is direly needed in the future?

Too bad Ive tossed out tons of EDO ram. With a decent mobo you could have built the ultimate gaming machine of 1993

If I remember correctly, 486 may need those VLBus cards ... and it also needs one of those multi-function controllers to boot from HD ....

Background story: my brother in-law has an IC machine that uses a custom communications card that cannot handle systems beyond 486s. Why? We don't know....but he's tested it with everything down to a Pentium 33 with no success, yet it has worked with the 2 486s he's used. Now the most recent one is dead.

Thanks very much for all your offers, by the way! I have asked him how soon he needs it (i.e. do I need to go pick one up today, or can I wait until the weekend) Depending on the timing, I'll start sending out PMs to try and arrange a pick up.

(Also, any offers near Hamilton, or between Hamilton and Sarnia would be greatly appreciated!!!!)

Thanks.

I was going to say that VFXweb.com may have the VLB stuff you need. Some of the last-generation 486es used 72-pin RAM and PCI slots instead of 30-pin and VLB/EISA.

They even had 486es up to 133MHz! :) I owned a 120 myself... alllmost as good as the original Pentium 60.

I know about this problem, as I used to work with T&D and CNC machines. One quick way to try and fix it is to make the 16 bit and 8 bit IO latency higher in the BIOS, ie, from 1 and 1 to 8 and 4 loops.

Give it a try... free anyway =)
