Hey Forum,
I've decided to purchase an ipod in the future, but I'm very curious about the character font recognition format on the ipod. Will I be able to put chinese songs on the Ipod and it'll display the name properly?
I believe this has something to do with unicode? Im not too sure, but isn't there several different types of chinese fonts?
Anyways, Are there firmwares that I can flash the IPOD with that will allow me to view chinese characters?

I can only give you mixed answers, I do have chinese songs on my iPod, one of them works, the others are just boxes. I'm guessing if it's the actual chinese in the ID3 tag, then it will show. If it's those funny looking character symbols that aren't chinese but letters with accents then it will show as boxes.

Unicode is used to represent characters in different languages unlike ASCII which is limited to english characters. If the device supports Unicode it is likely to support Chinese (and many other languages).
Well there may well be a Unicode flash if the device doesnt support it out of the box.

Yes, as long as you properly ID tag them in iTunes.
After all, the iPod can be set as many languages for the menu itself (including Chinese).

Anyways,
I got my Ipod... and I'm disappointed in their character recognition system.
80% of my chinese songs are unreadable because of the font!

Hmm . . . everyone elses collection is fine . . . yours isn't. Must be the iPod. Seriously, do look into some settings or problems with the ID tagging on your end. My iPod recognizes chinese characters fine, when I've needed to use them.

It seems like you're right, my problem is not the ipod, but in the ID tag itself.

I dont know why my ID tag names are all messed up. My computer setting has all the chinese font turned on. So what can be the problem in viewing these ID tags
