You wont have to upgarde any video/sound cards to add Firewire ports.
Look inside on the motherboard, see if you have any empty slots. I bet you will have some.
Then buy a Firewire port PCI card and stick it in. Something like this:

Yup. Disable the sound and video in the BIOS and stick in whatever you want for a video or sound card. Same with firewire, just add an expansion card.

I need to know which motherboard you have.
Any instructions manual or can you take a picture of inside your pc please?
You could also use Everest (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html) then check motherboard, motherboard, motherboard name.

I know what kind of motherboard it is using system information, and most MDG and DELL pcs are acutally named after their motherboards, if I'm correct. It is the Intel D845GVS1, i think.

all motherboards should have at least 1 fireware ports on the motherboard.. you just have to get thoses pci cards that connect the ports on the motherboard..
if not.. but a sb audigy sound card. it has 1 fireware port build onto the sound card...
