Would you do it? I've had my nano for two months now, but Im getting bored with it. Its nice and small and all, love being able to have it in the shirt pocket without any buldge, but the battery life is sub par and the sound isnt anything to write home about. Its good no doubt, just not the best of mp3 players. So i was looking, why not get a PSP? So many more things you can do with it. Thoughts?

For sure. With a 2gig mem stick its just as good.

Except for being 10x the size.

It depends on what you need it for. First off, if you want better sound quality, get better headphones. Next, this is an opinion question, so in coming to RFD, you aren't going to get a straight answer. The nano is great in that it is tiny so you can use it pretty discretely, although it lacks the other functions of the PSP. The PSP is great because it does A LOT more than an ipod nano, but is rather large, and can be an inconvenience to carry around. Do you think you will have time to make use of the PSP's other functions? Do you like having lots of music? ie the amount a nano can hold? If you do, then be prepared to shell out another $200+ for the 2gb MSPD.

So  Get more sticks! I like the fact that you can play games and homebrew with the PSP.

Actually I'd stick with the nano. The only thing the PSP can boast over the nano is its ability to play games and videos on a wide-screen. The nano can play movies/video files if you run Linux on it. As for the sound quality, it just sounds like you need to get better headphones.

very true. I thought I would use mine for music (I have a 2GB stick) but I just couldn't do it. Too much bulge in a bad way.

I just got a moto slvr V7, and will soon have a 512 stick for it, so that will be my music source. It isn't too much bigger than a nano.

I love my psp though - wouldn't give it up.

The PSP is just soooo cool, bro in law has one. But do most people really have time to play games on the go?

The PSP can also surf the web AFAIK.
But I absolutely agree with MrWizard's post.

Absolutely. You've already said the reason: Battery life. Nano will DIE (can't charge or hold a decent charge) a few more months or 1 yr later.

PSP battery is removable. And come on, have you seen those awesome graphics on the games? No contest !

Doesnt have to be Shures. I have some $80 Sony's and they sound great.

psp is amazing .. ive spent 100+ hours playing 'lumines' alone .. and load it up with simpsons/familyguy or movies if im going to be bored for a while (lectures).

even more fun when you are with friends who have psps as well, during breaks or at lunch with friends we can just play burnout against each other or virtua tennis.

but don't get it if you are mainly using it for music unless ur carrying a bag or something.

I used to use my PSP for MP3's but I got so sick of carrying a "brick" ;) around that I bought myself a 30GB Video iPod. The PSP's size will get to you after a while, that's for sure, especially if you're used to the Nano's. If all you want to do on-the-go is listen to music then stick with the Nano. If you want the added features of the PSP and don't mind its size then by all means get one.

I sold my 4gb Nano for a psp and don't regret it one bit... I love playing games and I play everyday on the GO Train 40 minutes to work and 40 minutes back plus I watch movies, listen to music and check my gmail when I'm in Starbucks. :)

Sell your nano and get a NDS. With super pass, you can also use CF / SD cards and play movies or music on it. On top of that, NDS is way more fun!

PSP is for video games if you got it for any other purpose you going to regret it

The DS interface sucks for music (i.e. you have to boot to that crappy moonshell to do anything). Sound quality stinks too.
That said, the PSP sucks also compared to a dedicated music player. Plus for anything "homebrew" you're constantly fighting Sony for their firmware updates to close the holes. It's heavy, bulky. Can't beat the PSP for video though.
As for games selection, heh. Not much of a library unfortunately. The next few months are looking up though. And battery life, if you think the nano is bad it will be worse with the PSP.
Stick with the nano. You can exercise with it, unlike the PSP (plus don't forget to buy that $70 Memory Stick Pro Duo, you're gonna need it).

Don't expect the PSP to push anything near to what your NANO does in terms of battery life.

What type of functionality are you looking for? Just games? Movies?

I have considered getting a PSP, but add a few memory sticks and accessories i found it more economical to get a 14" cheap laptop. Plays DVDs, most of the Homebrew that the PSP can do SNES,NES,GBA ect..

The NANO is great for MP3's but if you want alot more functionality get a cheap Laptop(if you don't mind carrying it around), you'll get much more use out of one then a PSP.

Well i just bought a $1400 laptop last week, and its not exactly something that i want to be bringing everywhere.

I would use the PSP for games and music.

Some may say, why not just get a PSP and keep both? Well, frankly i dont need to be carrying two things around everyday and i dont think then i would make enough use of the PSP.

Think you mean a PDA (much more portable).

Does anyone here own a IPOD and a PSP?
And bring both with you everyday to work/school, wherever? Do any of you find the PSP's size to be bit cumbersome?

MrWizard

I used to own both an ipod and a psp. Don't own either anymore. Anyways, I would occasionally carry both around with me. If I felt like playing games, I would whip out the PSP, if I felt like just closing my eyes and listening to music, I used the ipod.

Carrying the PSP was a bit annoying at times because it is large, but if you have a backpack with you it isn't a problem

I'm getting a NDS lite becuase there's more possibilities out there for the lite to function as a PDA with homebrew. it's not powerful by all means compared to PSP, but it does have a touchscreen, better battery life, same functions (multimedia + music), better library of games, easier to surf the web wtih a stylus and it's a clamshell design so it'll protect both screens without any add on accessories and easy for my wallet $$$.

i've seen people carrying around PSP but not PSP alone but with a case protector (with flip cover), a carrying case etc. it's so troublesome and ugly.

some people argue that there's way more homebrew going on with PSP than with NDS. i wonder why...hmmm... maybe it cuz the current PSP games bore them so much that they have to find new ways to make it entertaining!

finally, i really hate loading times. if i'm on the go i don't wanna wait half the time for a racing track to load.i want it instantaneous.

of course, my post is semi bias so be aware of that
