Hi all,
A friend of mine and I are thinking of going on a GAP adventure tour, we're especially interested in the Peru one. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with them before? anyone gone to peru before? how challenging is the inca trail trekking??? thanks!

I am going to Peru on Saturday. I initially planned to book a tour with GAP. Then I found it would be much cheaper to deal with the Peruvian tour companies directly.
Companies like GAP, they dont do the guided tour themselves actually. They more like a travel agent, out sourcing all the tours to their local affiliates.

Please post back about your experiences when you finish your trip. I would like to hear more. Definitely a spot that is on my list.

I have been to Peru twice, and I love it. Its an amazing country. I have family that lives in Cusco. I havent climbed the inca trail yet, but i know that there are different hikes you can take, from 1 day to 7 day hikes.

If you use a single company to handle all the accommodations, transfers, tours, they tend to inflate the total price by 150-300 USD and charge ridiculous single supplement if u r traveling alone.
In Lima, I booked the Sheraton Lima myself ($50*3 + 4000 SPG points back for price matches :D) and arranged a full day city & museum tour with Lima Vision ($65 with lunch) and a full day flight tour to Nazca with AERO CONDOR PER directly ($350).
Then I booked a 3* hotel in Cusco (Hotel Ruinas,$50/night) and asked the hotels to arrange day tours to Machu Picchu ($165 in Vistadome class) and nearby ruins ($15-20 each).
Finally, a 3D2N package to Puerto Maldonado ($205 at Posada Amazonas)
Flights Lima - Cusco - Puerto Maldonado -Lima are about $300USD with Lan Peru.
All ground transfers are provided free by hotels (except sheraton).
If this way, i can save about $250, comparing to the quotes i got from Peruvian tour companies. I can definitely get it cheaper if i book them locally once in Peru. but I dont want to waste my time to do that.
The draw back(?), comparing to a GAP tour, u dont get a tour manager accompanying u all the way in Peru and u cannot travel with the same group of people the whole time.
