Since no one is responding to my other post, I thought I'd make this one more specific. I had connection and internet in my router, now I don't, I am using a trendnet wireless router. I directly inserted internet to router, then router to computer and wireless USB adapter to other computer. I had connection, running fine, and then my internet just died. I then put my internet directly into the computer and it was up and running again. My problem is I can't get connection in my router anymore, how do I get it back?

I saw your other thread but I'm abit slow and couldn't understand what you were asking.
So some things to check are the cat 5 cables> connections> led's lit on the router and network card.
Do you have a software firewall blocking access on your home network? http://192.168.0.1 through 255
What ip has your computer gotten from the router. ie. 192.168.0.100
Here's how. (http://www.duxcw.com/faq/network/ipconfig.htm)
In the DOS screen it will show you something like the example on the page.
and the default gateway should read 192.168.0.1 because that is the address of your router.
trendnet (http://www.trendnet.com/kb/kbp_viewquestion.asp?ToDo=view&questId=406&catId=309) resetting router to factory defaults and FAQ.

I think his connection through the router was never working - he had a cached page up and the router was never set up.
It's just a guess but it sure looks like it.

Some troubleshooting suggestions:
Change every variable one at a time to isolate the culprit.
Start with simple stuff like:
- swapping cables
- try a different port on the router
- connect a different PC (try connecting the wireless PC by cable instead)
Next power down and restart both PC and router.
Next I'd try the factory reset button on the router (note this will erase any custom settings)

Finally got my router running, but both network sites dont work for me. http://192.168.1.1 and http://192.168.0.1 they both dont work for me, yet my internet is fine running through the router. What can I do to get to this site.

Is that what your router's address is? easiest way to check is to use ipconfig:
start->run...->"cmd"
ipconfig
look for "default gateway", this should be your router's address. Also, not all routers run the http config interface on port 80, ports 8008 and 8080 are common alternatives for http:
192.168.0.1:8080
192.168.0.1:8008

Why not...this would make no difference at all if you're hitting those IP's with a browser.

Specify your router model number as some trendnet's have different default ip's.
the TEW-230 apb has a default ip http://192.168.1.100

My mistake... I have never seen the htpp:// written. Works for me.

Still doesn't work, it says the ip in the instruction manual, yet that does not work at all.

This used to be required during the infancy of the WWW, when browsers like Mosaic v0.99 and Netscape 1.x were around and IE was at version 3 I think... after certain versions, they just made the HTTP:// part inherent in the browser.

Check your IP of your client.... should be something like 192.168.0.1 or similar... you can make it 192.168.0.50 just to be safe for now.
Fire up your router, plug in on the 'internal' side NOT WAN port and check for 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254, typically, the .1 address is the default out of the box, if this doesn't work then your default IP of the router has changed. The easiest thing to do then is to just probably hit the RESET button on the back, if your unit has one, I think most do, this will RESET the ROUTER to FACTORY defaults. Once this is done, hit your router IP again, within your browser.

What kind of USB adapter are you using? I bought the trendnet bundle from FS, and the USB died after a day of use, and computer wouldn't recognize it...

What address did you try? did you append a different port at the end? whats the address of your default gateway as reported by ipconfig?
i previously listed ports 8008 and 8080 as alternatives. I also forgot that 88 is also sometimes used.

I have a similar problem.....for some unknown reason, my wired SMC Barricade router stops working after awhile (i.e. no internet connection..ADSL). Then I have to power it off and on. Then after it gets itself ready, it works properly again. Is this something that I have live with or is it common with either wired or wireless routers?
Lastly, if I use the reset button instead, do I lose my password and stuff? I am not sure if I have any custom settings other than the password...plug and play, right? Thanks in advance.

One of my SMC barricades did this too. i think it was just sensitive to overheating. out of the 7 or so routers i've owned, only one had this problem, it was resolved by proping it up and moving it to a dark place (it used to be by a balcony window).

usually, no. simply pressing reset is a soft reset and does not clear/reset settings or passwords. again, this out of a sample size of 7 routers i've had. there may be some out there that do reset (which would be a dumb design). usually a hard reset is required to reset things (usually something like: hold reset, unplug power, plug back in, let go of reset)
