When I went to Staples today the 25-pack and 100-pack DVD+R's were both 16x Advanced AZO (usually MCC004), but the 50-pack was 8x with no mention of AZO on the label. Anyone know what the MID of the 8x would be?

It always seems Verbatim deals don't get much attention here at RFD. This IS a hot deal, IMO.
These are probably the 2nd best choice for blank media right now, right behind Maxell professional products.
I do however recommend the DVD+Rs over the DVD-Rs, as the DVD+Rs tend to be a bit more consistant.

I bought some Verbatim DVD-R's about a year ago.
I'm not too impressed with them. The movies burned on them take over a minute to start up on my home theater system, whereas Maxell's and Sony's take about 10 seconds.

Has anyone seen 16x DVD+R's in the 50-pack in-store? I've gone to two Staples locations and both only had the 8x in the 50-pack spindles. The 25-pack and 100-pack spindles, however, were both 16x.

definitely look for the 16X spindles... they're the ones w/ the super-azo dye tech. in the discs.
i've never seen 8X +/- discs that have "azo" logo on them.
btw, the 16X are new stock, so u should be seeing them soon instore.

The 8X DVD+Rs may not have the AZO logo, but they are using the Advanced AZO dye and they're just as good as the MCC 004.
Although, I guess I can think of one thing working in favor of the 16X stuff: they're made by CMC Magnetics exclusively, while the 8X stuff is made by Prodisc and CMC Magnetics. The Prodisc stuff *may* be poorly bonded.

The last time I ordered these discs at this price, they lost my package.
No way I am ordering this again, not so good discs anyway.

Yep, Staples delivery BLOWS. Hard.
not so good discs anyway.
No no no! This is what i'm talking about when I say these are underrated on RFD! Verbatim discs are among the best supported, best made, longest lasting discs. They're not perfect, but I don't think you can do much better than these without buying a professional product.

I was going to post this, but the Verbatims get poor reviews on http://www.videohelp.com/. Aren't the 16X discs the DataLifePlus ones which aren't the ones on sale?

if they lost your package, they should have re-sent you another one or refund you. They lost my order once and sent the replacement to me in a couple of days. staples has "bad" reputation in some PM cases, but their CS is pretty good, IMO.

It seems they're a mix of 16X and 8X DVD+R, but just 8X DVD-R. Regardless of those videohelp reports, these are good discs.

The Verbatim deal back in December was better. Do you guys remember the Verbatim 25 pcs 16x DVD+R that was selling for $8.99 at The Source by Circuit City. I still haven't opened the spindle yet =P

The Maxell 4X +R/-R 25 packs are on for $8.99
-R: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=89%2C97,307&webid=584744&affixedcode=WW
+R: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=89%2C97,307&webid=584743&affixedcode=WW
You're likely to get 8X +R (nor sure about the -R) so this could be ok, depending on what they're shipping these days. Last time it was MAXELL002 which are good MIJ discs.
