Don't limit yourself to a 5*, some 4-4 1/2* are actually given much better reviews on Trip Advisor, check it out.

some deals at last minute club auctions . a friend went to DR for a week last year inclusive for $800=tax out of toronto.

and also as ^ mentioned , 4-4 1/2 stars are not bad.
