Apple is now selling a 1 gig version of the nano for $180 with free shipping, not bad if you want the features but don't need tons of room. Free laser engraving when you buy online.
Shuffle also dropped in price, $90 bucks for 512, and $120 for 1 gig.
Cheers!
Thanks for the extra info guys.

yeah just saw this release on www.engadget.com. An excellent technology blog.
Link:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/07/apple-ipod-nano-now-comes-in-1gb/
They are saying the 1GB is $149.00 US, so with the exchange the www.apple.ca site is pretty much bang on.
Further they go on to say the 512MB Shuffle drops to $69.00US and the 1GB Shuffle falls to $100.00US.
For the difference, I will probably order a 1GB Nano ASAP.

Taxes will be added after your credit card transaction is approved...that way they know if it is the correct prov. to which how much PST shud be charged.
This is standard for Apple...your tax will show by the time it ships.

What would their excuses be?
1) Shipping costs -> Nope, they're free shipping
2) Not an authorized dealer -> Lol yeah right ;)
3) ???
:p
But regardless, you'll only get $6 off for the 1gig shuffle.
Might as well try to find a relative that's in University and get the $10 off from a edu discount on the 1gig shuffle!

3) It would be in breach of their contract with Apple. Authorized Dealers aren't allowed to sell for below their retail set by apple on new product, unless they have prior authorization to do so.
Doesn't matter what the stores PM policy is. Some will still do it, but if Apple finds out, they will have the right discontue sales of whatever line is invovled within that store/chain.

if you can't PM at FS what about staples? they sell shuffles too. You can also try applying the $10 off $10 coupon. and since it is over $50, it is free shipping.
besides, even if they won't BEAT the price, they can still match the price from apple. Personally, if I were to buy one, I wouldn't want to wait for apple to deliver them. They take a lot longer than going to FS and buying from the store.

Actually, they aren't allowed to match Apple even. It is pretty funny, cuz it really screws the retailers. I think it was DEC 10, apple had their Customer Appriciation day...had decent prices on older product, and I went to COMPUSMART to get them to match it, and they weren't allowed to, as per their Apple Rep.

The reason why you can't just drag and drop is because the iPod has a certain file structure and file naming protocols that need to be followed or the music won't play.

i am talking about dragging and dropping MP3's onto the shuffle and having them play on the shuffle without going through itunes. if you can do this, please show me how.
also, mercury, i know about the ipod file structure. My question was kind of rhetorical. The meaning really is, why did they do it this way. There are many other MP3 players where you can drag, drop and play. This, in my opinion, is much more user friendly and easy to use. Apple has always sold themselves as being the "easiest" and most user friendly products.

Apple calls it easy because they killed a few competitors already. Olympus m:robe recently stop producing MP3 Players because of the agressive competition with Apple. I've always thought iTunes was some sort of anti-pirarcy program that stops you from transferring pirated songs onto an iPod.

Easy as pie. Download a program like http://shuffle-db.sourceforge.net/ which will handle all the directory stuff. Alternately, you can drag your song into the hidden subdirectories where the MP3s are actually kept

If you are manually copying the files, it's better not to continue using iTunes since it tries to automatically reorganize your files. The shuffle database builder program is better since it allows you to organize/name the files and directories however you wish. Ephpod is another program that works better with actual iPods, though I've never tried it.
*edit* if you insist on using iTunes, change the settings so that it doesn't automatically load and try to synchronize your songs when you plug the iPod in.

The thing I like about itunes and the shuffle is the "auto load". It only takes a second and you have a whole new bunch of songs on it. If you use itunes to organise your music anyway it really isn't a hassle, but if you don't, I can see you might want another way to load songs. Try one of the 3rd party shareware solutions.

omg be quiet. Saying it isn't "easy" is in comparison to other mp3 players that are able to perform the required function in fewer steps than the shuffle. Hence, apple ipods are not "easy" to use, which has been one of apple's competitive advantages. Man, something must be wrong with you...
About hating apple and me owning an apple ipod... FYI, I paid ZERO dollars for my shuffle. Why wouldn't I use it? I hate driving in traffic, why do I keep doing it? I hate going to work, why do I do that? Because the benefits outweigh the costs. Use your brain and keep your childish arguements to yourself because I am not going to be roped in by this nonsense.

got the reply from stooples PM.
they are going to sell it to me for $86.00 (512mb). and at stooples, there is currently the $10 of $10 coupon. brings it down to $76+tax.
edit: i think they screwed up the PM though. apple selling it for 89.00 and they used 89.99. oh well.
mine came up to be $97.65 with taxes..

i went to richmond/vancouver staples. the manager not believe such new price.
when he accepted pm, then i asked him how about your 10.00 coupon.
his response was you better buy from on-line , this is not for retail shop.
if the price is the same as apple, why should i buy from you?

Some Staples store's manager are famous for denying PM even if it is 100% or 110%.

Wow I'm amazed at how fast they are, I placed my order on Tuesday at noon, recieved an email stating that my order should ship by Feb 16th (I assumed since I got my nano engraved with my son's names on it) well I got home and had an email from Apple 6 hours later stating my order has shipped with a fedex shipping number, as of the wed (24hour later) my nano had arrived in Alaska, and left with in an hour. I can almost assume I might see this on Friday since I'm in Western Canada. All in all a very pleasant experience.

I ordered one too yesterday (engraved) and recvd notification this AM that it has shipped via fedex.
Question: as this is coming from the States, will we be dinged for anything other than taxes? I thought if we were ordering on Apple.ca it would be shipped FROM Canada somewhere.
Mrwinky, if you get yours today perhaps you can share your experience.

Nothing else beside PST/GST that was already charged to your card when it shipped. Guaranteed.

You only ever get charged brokerage fees etc on items where you didn't already pay the taxes. It has nothing to do with where the item is actully coming from, and all to do with who you buy it from, and if the sales taxes have already been paid.
Apple.ca is a canadian company with Canadian tax #'s and charges gst and pst, so you will never be charged again at the border, regardless if they ship it from California, Toronto or Timbuktu! At the border they check to see if the taxes have been paid, if they have, it is sent through, if not, they assess these taxes and add a fee for doing so.
Mistakes can get made (either by the shipper, or the brokerage company), but if you pay GST and PST when you buy the item, it is a mistake and you can refuse to pay, or pay it and get your money back.
I ordered something from tigerdirect.ca (also charges you the taxes) and they forgot to add the right documentation to the package when they sent it, so I was dinged. But I called them up and got my money back right away as it was their error.

wow sockboy, thanks for the descriptive answer.
Also I discovered this is not coming from the States ... it is coming from Shenzen, China.
Like the other poster, the only total I see is the 'estimated total' of $179 (no taxes show on my online order record).
I would hope apple has it together in terms of tax collection.
Again, thanks for taking the time to write!
