Avoid Curtis DVD players. Mine has suddenly stopped reading most DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs. Only spend $30 if you're okay with buying what amounts to a disposable player.. there's a reason its so cheap -- it's likely pure crap.

The expensive ones are no good too as most of the branded ones are all for playing region 1.

You get what you pay for. I noticed that a number of retailers like Zeller and Superstore are carrying various cheap brand DVD players for $20-$30. Normally, these are the sale prices, although that's probably how much it's worth. OK if it's for the kids to mess around with but get yourself a decent player!

not necessarily.

i got a $30 dvd player (not divx) 3 yrs ago during boxing day at FS and it's played everything i've shoved into it.

still workin like a charm today.

good point there.

there's been cheap "no-name"-branded standalones that can be "fixed" to being region-free ... a feature that usually can't be done on branded standalones.

I work at LD in AVS

Anyways, you have no idea how many returns we get on those. I mean dont get me wrong, there's nothing horrible about it; just that most who return them just dont like it. The Nortek one is much better.

Anyways, there must be better ones out there.

It's a Nova (I guess) as I don't think FS/BB have ever carried Citizen. ;)

checked, it's an "AMW" = amphion media works.

don't think FS/BB ever sold anything "Citizen" ;)
Citizen is like RCSS/Loblaw's own brand of electronics....
