Wow... i just watched this movie on the weekend, and all i have to say is... thank god i didn't pay to see this piece of crap...
i realize a lot of people really did like the movie, but i'm just looking for affirmation from others who else DID NOT like the movie... i dont' care if you liked it... i just want to know who thought it was uber lame also
some ISSUES i had with the movie:
1. what's up w/ heath ledger's accent? I couldn't understand have the stuff he was saying... sounded like he had a speech inpediment rather than a southern accent??? the dude never moved his lips when he talked
2. too much random shots of nudity... like early on when jack is looking all serious and in the background ennis is naked and changing... or the random shot of jack naked by the river washing his clothes.... wtf?
3. ending? or lack there of? what the hell? nothign happened at the end
4. ang lee needs to stop trying to make artsy fartsy flicks... like he did w/ CTHD... yes, we all like nice wide angle shots of magnificent mountains and what not... but at least have a story to go along w/ it... most of the people who i've talked to that like the movie all say... yes... great cinematography and music... story's alright
5. gay cowboys (maybe that's why there aren't cowbosy anymore)
there was much more comments i had during the movie... but all in all.. i foudn it to be very disappointing... i was ok w/ the gay scenes... but the rest of it... after it finished i just felt like there was so much more to the story that could've been told
there's my rant

I rated it *** of ***** - liked it, didn't love it.
But I suspect anyone who outright hated this movie, either isn't a fan of romance movies (eg: Titanic, The Notebook, etc.) or is one of the hardcore gay hatin' conservatives who can't seem to restrain themselves by pokin' their noses into other peoples lives...

People like it and blow it out of proportion because they like sounding politically correct.

What are your top 5 movies this past year then? Maybe it isn't your style?

I wonder if Tred.Mill posts a thread for every movie he hates, or if it's just because of what this particular movie is about.

perhaps you should spend a little bit more time researching the movies that you attend so that we don't have to listen to you b!tching about what kind of movies Ang Lee should be making. :| Might I suggest Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com) That way you can get your synopsis before your manliness is threatened by attending such movies!

i liked it, and political correctness had nothing to do with it. your crass generalization is blatantly false.
it's about as correct as saying anyone who disliked the film is really just a closet redneck, ignorant and homophobic.

2. too much random shots of nudity...
That is never a complaint I've ever had about a film - mind you, I'd prefer it to be someone like Nicole Kidman or Jessica Alba...

5. gay cowboys (maybe that's why there aren't cowbosy anymore)
1. he mumbles. that's not uncommon. i have met people that speak in exactly the same way
2. random? how about realistic? way more realistic use of nudity than the ridiculous half hour of soft core porn that was the beginning of 'hostel'--now that was a waste of money.
***spoiler warning****
3. obviously you missed some of the symbolism with the shirts--notice how when he discovers them, they are arranged in a particular order, but then in his trailer, they are reversed? it symbolizes his recognition, finally, of the intimacy and value of their relationship. he was crushed by the discovery of the shirt. the final scene shows how, long after he could do anything about it, he finally accepts his love. it's quite touching actually, but you were probably too preoccupied by the fact that two men fell in love.
4. artistic impression is so subjective, but suffice it to say that many, many people did not agree with your assessment of crouching tiger, hidden dragon. and if you didn't like the 'artsy'-ness of ang lee, i highly recommend you avoid terrence malick films.
5. perhaps the weakest excuse for a criticism i've ever read about this film. we have movies about every conceivable topic under the sun, what's the big deal with gay cowboys? they're gay. they're cowboys. so what. it's a love story. get over it.

Actually, you should extend that to anyone who doesn't watch or play the film, too.

I don't know, Gay cowboys are pretty funny, it's just one of those things that when you think about it, you laugh. Maybe it's because of Village people, or maybe it’s just because of a stereo type popular culture has created of the last 50 years. But I'll be damned if every time I think of Gay Cowboys, I also think of pudding and just laugh.

There's a difference between people criticising gays for what they do behind bedroom doors and criticising a director for filming what gays do behind bedroom doors. Ang Lee invites people to poke their noses into the lives of these gay characters, and like any hetero film, I think people are allowed to dislike the fact that it contains gratuitous nudity without being a gay basher or whatnot.
I've been meaning to see it, believe it or not, but haven't got around to it. Hetero sex scenes make me uncomfortable as it is; I'm a bit queasy at the thought of homosexual love scenes, which is perhaps what has prevented me from seeing it thus far.
One thing's for sure: I doubt there's going to be a lot of crossover between the audiences that saw The Passion and audiences that see Brokeback...

oh please, this movie is over 2 hours long, yet the scenes where the actors are shown san-clothing probably amounts to a mere 10-15 seconds of total screen time.
it surprises me how sensitive americans/canadians are when it comes to nudity and sexuality. what's the big deal? you've never seen a shirtless man before or a topless woman? i guess you would be uncomfortable watching jarhead ...since jake prances around topless in that movie way more than he did in brokeback mountain.

naaa I don't think so, I just think Gay Cowboys are funny. Even the words as the come of my mouth make me want to laugh, I just get these crazy pictures in my head of the stereo type homosexual (metrosexualish) and that combined with John Wayne, or Clint Eastwood just makes me want to laugh. It's just really funny to me. I think it would make a great comedy to take maybe a classic Sergio Leone western like once upon a time in the west or any of the man with no name series and re-dub it as a gay cowboy movie. That would be comedy gold. Picture this….. Charles Bronson talking about how fabulous Henry Fonda’s long duster is…. With a lisp of course. Oh yeah funny stuff.

I've seen a lot of movies this year... and most them I have enjoyed. I saw this movie because of all the hype surrounding it... but was thoroughly disappointed. I never suggested that everyone should dislike it for the same reasons I did. But those are merely MY reasons.
THe subject matter was good... my comment about hte gay cowboys was meant to be sarcastic, although I see now how people can mistake it as being homophobic.
Like i said before in my previous post... the potential was there for telling of a great story... but all these little annoyances that bugged me PERSONALLY took away from the story.
To each his/her own...
