The restaurant shall remain nameless.
I met up with my friend yesterday for lunch. We drove seperate cars and I arrived at the restaurant before he did. My friend shows up about 15 minutes later and he tells that it took him forever to find a parking spot. We finished eating about 1 hour later and we leave the restaurant.
The plaza is infested with stores so we decided to walk around for a bit and did a little shopping. We walked around the plaza and my friend notices that the spot where he parked had no car. He starts freaking out thinking that his car was stolen or something. We walk up to the spot and there was a sign clearly visable saying that the spot is reserved for customers of another restaurant. Otherwise you would get a ticket or your car could be towed away.
He goes inside the restaurant and asks one of the servers what happened to the car that was parked in that spot. The server told him that it was towed away because the car was parked there for a couple hours and it was not a customer of the restaurant. My friend went off on the server saying how it was all bs and stormed out of the restaurant. Later on my friend tells me that he went to that restaurant with a bunch of friends last weekend and he didn't leave that same server any tip. I asked him if they had a bad experience eating there and he said no, he just does not believe in tipping.
We put 2 and 2 together and came to the conclusion that the server purposely had his car towed away because my friend didn't tip him. I believe this to be true after watching the servers reaction to my friend. Serves my friend right for being cheap.
It is true that people do remember those that don't tip.

Somehow, I think tipping has nothing to do with that.

I think it did. This plaza has always been very lenient on enforcing their parking spots and I've never once seen anyone had their car towed away. Furthermore we saw many other people just parking in designated spots and walk off somewhere else.

Probably didn't involve the tipping like another RFDer said.
If you guys didn't eat there and just parked there, they had all the right reasons to tow.

I'm a little confused here. You're friend is pissed because the plaza was so busy that parking was hard to come by. So he parked his car in a spot that was clearly marked "CUSTOMERS ONLY" for a specific restaurant. He then got towed because, since his car was illegally parked there, legitimate customers of the restaurant could not find a parking spot and therefore causing the restaurant to possible loose money because a potential customer went elsewhere to eat......Is that right??
One question....does your friend also park in handicap spots as well??? Just curious...............

agreed, I believe those spots are for customers on that day, not from last weekend ;)

Your friend probably parked on the spot where restaurant people could easily notice and then walked to another restaurant. Whoever decided to tow the car had to be 100% sure the car owner disobey the rule. And, he needs to be sure that he would not waste the time of the tow truck driver. They probably would not call for tow truck unless the car had been parked for a period of time. Not something like 5 minutes.
Seeing other people just parking in designed spots and walk off somewhere else does not mean they were noticed. Even if they were noticed, it does not mean they would not be towed. You just did not see that happens. Tow truck are not just staying there and waiting. They will be called and that takes times to come.
If it is really personal revenge, your friend had to do more than just not leaving tips.

Hahaha do you seriously think a waiter was so pissed off about not getting tipped that he secretly followed your friend to his car, noted the license plate, and then scoped out the parking lot every 2 hours for the next week just waiting for the chance to have him towed?
You guys are too paranoid.
Next time he should just park where he's supposed to.

Maybe the server he didn't tip the first time followed him out to view his car, then silently waited until he saw that car again. The image flashed in the servers head of him laughing at him when he magically saw the random car parked in the wrong restaurant's spot.
He acted quickly and called for a tow to get back at what i'm sure was the millionth person that never left a tip...........
..........Or maybe he parked in an obviously towable spot. Rightly got towed, and just made that servers day if he actually remmebered who the hell you paranoid people were. ;)
Great story though. Super Ownage if it was even remotely plausible.

Many people don't tip, I'm sure the server is used to it.
There's no way he remembered your friend and the car that he drives.
You and your friend are paranoid.

and how would the server know (or remember a week later?) what your friend drives?
