Are Louis Vuitton bags/walleets HANDMADE?
I have always wanted to know if they are handmade since they are all very expensive (even real leather won't make a bag $1000). But for sure, LV has really quality bags so I thought they were handmade.

Probably not handmade. Some of the stitching would be quite difficult to do.

and if you think you can get a knock off and pass it off as the real thing to your gf, your kidding yourself.
To the average guy they all look the same but to the girl who wants a LV bag a fake looks fake.
Its why are the jeans at bannada republic, gap, zellers and costco all differnt prices, they all cost about the same $10 to make.
Price, value and cost are not always related

Apparently LV's rise to fame was due to a cruise/boating disaster ages ago. Everyone died except one person who managed to stay alive by holding onto his LV luggage which was the only article left afloat. Not sure if its true though.

People, I just want to know if LV bags are handmade or not. Please stay on the topic.
If by hand made you mean that the stiching is done by hand with a needle and thread then no, nothing is done like that. If by hand made you mean someone with hands sews it with a sewing machine then yes, but then again most sewing in all clothing is done this way.
Clothes are not like cars where you can have giant robots and machines stamp/press/weld for you vs using traditonal metal forming methods (ford vs austin martin). clothes are all made by people making <<<$1/hour

Part of the reason why some designer stuff is so expensive is because they are manufactured in europe. Meaning the clothes are not out sourced to cheap labour countries. I was reading somewhere that the min wage in european countries is really really high. That has to be included in the cost.
The other reason is because people actually fork out the money for it so why shouldn't they charge high prices?
Not to threadjack or anything but I'm a girl in my 20's and I've never seen the appeal of LV or any high end designer. Sure the runway shows are gorgeous, the fabric is high end, the craftmenship will hopefully last a lifetime, but other than that I don't see the appeal to warrent the cost. Most indie designers are much more original and price friendly. Can someone enlighten me as well?

I'm not too sure that just being made in Europe makes something expensive.
I've bought leather purses that are made in Italy for 50 before, same for leather boots made in Italy- paid 120 for them!
I think it is mainly advertising hype!
personally I don't care for "designer" name bags that much.
I like a few lesser known brands.
www.rudsak.com is a small company in montreal that makes and designs all their leather bags and clothing there.
bags and purses generally started at 100 last time i was in the shop (like a year ago). I bought a black purse there and it was 250 and is really nice.
but if u r looking for Italian bags that are handmade and a good deal.
I just bought a duffle bag from this website a few months ago.
I am very happy with it. every time I take my bag out, about 5 people stop me and ask where I bought it from.
the handles on my bag are also hand stitched, i don't think you can make round leather handles by machine.
I paid 300 for my bag and they are very classy looking, will not go out of style!
they also have men's business bags for a good price!

....has almost nothing to do with the actual cost of materials or even the labour.
The price is determined by what the demand is, and how much people are willing to pay for it. Marketing the brand is a huge expense for designers, and that is reflected in the price too. Lastly, once a brand is well established, sometimes artificially increasing the price adds to the "prestige" value of the brand and thus increases demand of a luxury good.
Also, the last time I looked, some LV goods available in North America like their wallets are "Made in USA"

quite simple, some ppl have a lot of money to spend...why don't you let them spend it? No point in trashing a brand...they spend millions and millions on brand recognition each year to allow it to set their goods at a certain price point. Who cares whether is hand made, or whether the leather is real or not.
It's all about marketing, why do you think the Superbowl is the most watched sports event in the world?...is the game that good?
yes some made in the States...i know for a fact their whole line of Epi leather goods are made in Spain.

The quality is great, but the designs are so ugly, IMO. The higher end ones are ok, but no way in hell would I want to look at that ugly cherry blossom purse.

Yes it's handmade.
I'm a big fan of LV, luggage, accessories, ect.. I do find there is a big misconception about luxury brands and how they are made. I was gona spend the time and explain, but LV has done all the explaining for me in a few short clips on their web site.

Just click on, the world of Louis Vuitton, -> Heritage -> Craftsmanship
watch the clips, they have everything from how the luggage and leather goods are made, to how the shoes and sunglasses are made. This isn't no 3rd world, poorly gifted craftsmen here, these people are masters of what they do.

i stand corrected...I saw some guy use a huge pick like comb to dig into the epi-leather to create holds for the thread seems...so it is hand made.
however I also saw a sew machine but it could be man-operated and not electric...but again this was a video made for their website...not sure if anything was staged.

LV is symbol for wanna be rich people. There's so much LVs both real and fake out there that well it has lost exclusivity. Having a Kelly Bag by Hermes, well you're in another category far superior than an LV totting lemming.

LV is too played out in my opinion
I'd rather rock a Tod's wallet than an LV one
