Im just curious....

If i was to ship a brand new Laptop or LCD monitor to the USA.

Would the receiver have to pay duty? Or is there no duty on electronic devices (somebody told me that)...

What if the electronic item was used?

thanks.

I believe there is no duty if the device was built in North America, otherwise there may be duty

It has nothing to do with where it was made.

If you label the parcel as "gift" and put the value at like $5, the person wont' have to pay any extra fees.

obviously... but the item is worth over 1500 CAD.. if they actually check it, thats not going to work.

If it was made in North America then there should be no duty...otherwise americans can claim $200 without paying duty while us canadians only 20 bucks.

Yes, as well as China, Brazil etc... Most are in the USA. You would have to check with your model.

Well AFAIK if it is marked as a 'gift' then the receiver need not pay duty.

I also want to know about is.

Is there a limit if declared as a gift??? And do you need to label it if the product is North American made???

well for receiving an item as a gift, there is duty if the value is over a certain amount, not sure what itis, but its not very high (this is for non electronic goods) Not sure what the deal is for electronics for imports.

I looked on the canadapost website, for exports to teh US, didnt find what iwas looking for. Checked canada customs as well...nothnig.

ANyone have a link to this indicating that there is no duty if it was made in NA,, etc

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably not duty, but likely sales tax.
