View Full Version : ebay increasing final value fee

I read that they are increasing their fee from 2.75% to 3% of closing price.

All ebay seems to do is increase fees and take away points programs all the time...

But they are also lowering insertion fees for items starting at $0.01-0.99. From US$0.25 to US $0.20 and C$0.30 to C$0.25

"For final value fees for Auction-Style and Fixed Price listings on eBay.ca and eBay.com, we are increasing one fee this year - the final value fee for items with a closing price of US$25.01-$1,000.00 or C$35.01-$1,450.00, which will increase from 2.75 to 3.00%"

That's such BS. E-bay is one of the most profitable companies in the world, yet they feel the need to get even more greedy.

not only that, they bought paypal so they could milk us for more, and then they got rid of their points system, and in the past while it seems they've gotten rid of their coupons

I think it's justifiable in this view, to use their contact system to contact people to sell outside of ebay

Which eBay doesn't allow either. >:(

Yeah I try to use ebay as little as possible. I wish there was somebody to rival them.

However there isn't, and sometimes I just have to use ebay. I got my camera off ebay, Panasonic Lumix DMC- FZ20 and I love the thing. I got it for $400 cheaper than it was being sold in stores. I felt it was worth it. It really sucks for those people who are selling things but paying through paypal is horrible.

Ebay smartened up. Sellers being the greedy they are, usually would start the auction at low price ie 99cents and then use the handling/shipping fee excuse to gouge customers.

Ebay has understood that it would get more money by increasing the percentage ont he final auction value than the initial one.

Pretty simple, and terribly profitable.
Now let's see if the greedy sellers will find another way to make buyers pay for the fee.

That's obvious of course. But how would this deter sellers who mark up their shipping fees? Seems to me like another reason for listing with higher shipping fees.

thats whyyou sell your items @ $0.01 and include the price of s&h and the price of the item itself into the Shipping cost to evade teh fees. :D

They're just milking the cash cow and will continue to milk it even tigher now that they have such a large user base, own paypal, and have almost no competition.

It's not the sellers being greedy... it's eBay being greedy. The sellers are just trying to make back some money that they are being charged.

you are wrong...they do have competition...look at the Japan market...ebay has a hard time getting into that market, they have been beaten in Japan cuz they didn't get into japan first....yahoo launched their auction site in Japan before eBay and thus everyone in Japan is using yahoo...

BTW, they are making lots of money, but investors aren't satisfied...they are asking more and thus eBay is giving more.....

On the world scale they don't have any competitors that are anywhere close..

On the world scale they don't have any competitors that are anywhere close..

and yet, investors are unhappy with eBay cuz they don't make enough money...in order to make more money, they should raise their fees....

and, they do not dominate world wide...they may dominate the North American market, but not globally yet....

But over here, NO ONE uses Yahoo Auctions!

Well, maybe a few ppl, but it's a role reversial over here.

ebay is the pinacle of American enterprise. Good for them for being so successful. Still very easy to make good money selling on ebay.

I've recently started putting up a few items on eBay and I'm finding the fees to be a pain. Just today, I had to take down an item I was able to sell here in Toronto without issue and here I'm charged $2-3 or something?
I've never paid 50 cents for listing an item, I WISH ...

I always factor in at least +$5 for their dumb fees, which makes me list the items even higher.

I dunno, I'm not liking ebay as a SELLER ... I prefer buying :D

I have never sold or bought thru ebay but 3% of the sale price seems fair to me considering that what you are selling is offered world wide. Unless you are selling high priced items an ad in your local newspaper seen ony by a small % the daily cirrulation numbers would cost more than that.

I agree.

I pay over $1000 a month, and my sales will double soon, and so will my fees. And Paypal fees. Paypal doesn't even have expenses to be charging as much as they do.

And I have to wait 3 days for an answer from their customer service. My fees should pay for the salary of at least one eBay person part time to help me and only me.

So you're paying them over $1k a month which means your sales are over $30k a month from ebay? Shouldn't you be happy they're giving you all these customers?
