Nice OC.

My Venice 3000+ does 240x9 at 1.45v but locks after that on AIBooster. Running ASUS A8N-Dlx-SLI, stock 6800GT, with Corsair Ballistix 2x512 2-2-2-6 at 2.8v (as is their standard spec). Tried 2.5-3-3-8 but still no go. What would you recommend for my next step? I'm a newb at OCing and anxious about adding too many volts.

Free bump.

Well two things, you have to isolate what HTT speed your motherboard can do. Then isolate what speed your ram can do. Then worry about what your CPU can do.

Check the A64 OC Guide (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=888001)

Anyways, Opteron's not pending anymore. Offers?

Thanks for the offer and thx for the link - finally a site with straightforward, step by step instructions on how to approach this. I'm taking it slow and steady. I'm quite impressed with this ASUS MB as it'll do 351HTT and the 3000+ with 1.4v does 2425 or 35% OC at only 44C on stock air. On to the memory now. :)

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice OEM for $200 -> $190

I had this running at 2.8ghz (312x9) at 1.7v for the last 3 months at least. It is 100% stable. It does not fail Prime 95; The longest stress test I ran was 50 hours. No errors. It passes SuperPi and games for hours on end without problems.

on what type of cooling system did you use?
how long have you had the cpu?
damn your mobo letting u get to 1.7v. mine wont let me pass 1.6v.

Custome water cooling. Danger Den TDX with Danger Den D5 pump and a Dual 120mm Heatercore. Load temps always < 35 degrees celsius.

The mobo's nice :) The chip also does 2.7ghz @ 1.65v and scales down accordingly

Bump.

Lurker wanted to thank you again for the link. Looks like my 3000+ will do about 2550 at 1.5v on Prime95 before errors so for the time being I'm playing it conservative and running 280x9 @1.5v, HTT @ 3x, Ram 1:1 at 2-2-2-8 1T, and my 6800GT at 385/1100 which'll run Prime95/3DMark05 for ever.

I wanted to ask in your experience what is the worst that can happen with too many CPU volts? Just loose the CPU or can that result in other collateral damage?

I've found as long as you keep the temps down, you can max out ur motherboard voltage options without killing the chip. I have yet to kill any chips with voltage overvolting but I've always had top end cooling for my chips.

Keep in mind running long term high volts can bring the life of your CPu down, however I've overvolted my Barton XP M to 2.2 volts before and to this day (after 2 years), it is still running at 2.2ghz on stock voltages 100% stable.

Heats the killer I find. Keep the heat away and your CPU should be fine.

Nodes: I'm using Vantec Stealth 120mm Fans on my heatercore.

My Venice 3000+ can do 9x280mhz at 1.475V retail heatsink+fan MSI Neo4-F mobo, any higher need more than 1.6v, imo don't go over 1.5-1.55v on air cooling unless you have water cooling.

Depends on your case, but keep the load under 50 C, idle at 28-38 C is ok should be under 40 C

Definately load under 50 degrees and if you idle over 35 degrees theres a problem. Most people I find idle from 25-35 (using Air/Watercooling).

you should mention which cooling you used on the Venice to acheive that speed which I'm guessing is water cooling since 1.7v is way too high for air.
