Hmmmm, I don't actually game myself but I can't resist to buy another video card to see all the eye candy that 3dmark06 has to offer. You would get another card just to run a benchmark software?

why the **** would you buy a new card for a benchmark program? buy graphics card to play games, not to get a score to compare to everyone elses. to be fair, buying a better card would probably give you better performance in pc games. but as you said, you dont game so you are a goddamn moron for even thinking about spending hundreds of bucks on a new graphics card just so you can see a few minutes of cinematics from a FREE software.

When you say you play games
It better not be solitaire or we'll kick you out of RFD for being an idiot

Here is what you do:

-get a big empty jar and label it silly things to buy
-put money for video card into jar
-put more money for any other silly things that you want to buy throughout the year
-at end of year, close and package that jar, and send me the jar

Then you dont have anything to worry about.

PM me for my address.

edit: this is post # 69, another sign this is a sexy idea

My trusty ole vanilla 6800 is still holding her own. I'll wait a year or two yet before it's time to worry about an upgrade.

but even if i had money to burn it wont be to buy the latest super duper card that would get great marks on 3dmark06

Yikes. I'm still running a Ti4800 and I think it's overkill for me whose last gaming experience was a half-finished Doom3. (Not because of speed - It actually ran fine - it was just a boring game.)

I'm still using my Hercules GeForce2 GTS 64mb that I've had for 5 years. I'm starting to think about upgrading. :)

Umm.. no.

My Radeon 9800 Pro is holding up nicely in the games I want to play.

Hmmm. The 2 Radeon 9800 pros i have in my tech bench an my gf's machine seem to do all i need them to. And my old trusty 9700 all in wonder pro is running fine in my main machine as well.

Just bought a dec for the ht upstairs as well. The x300 will probably get the boot in short order. Too bad its a proprietary card from hp, impossible to upgrade... Just have to use that machine as a glorified pvr then.

I upgrade just mine and the family(really just the wifes) computer now and do it on a 2 year rotation. My last upgrade to 9800 pros was expensive but my last fall upgrade to an 800xl and an 850xt were OK as I got them from the states, both slightly used.

Big change in benchmarks but playing fear, cod2 and bf2 periodically and they run fine. Next move will be to pci-e and the new ddr2 chipset for amd in a year.

I'm still using an all in wonder 9000. I don't game so it's good enough for me.

ditto. The only reason I got the 6800 was because of the passive cooling. My Ti4200 was still doing ok for games, but had a noisey fan.

I'm still chugging away with my 9600XT. Though I would consider snagging an AGP 6600 or 6800. But to tell you the truth I only play online games that have been proven and trusted (I still play UT 1 online lol, its the only game I have played in a while, of course the 9600XT is way more than that, heck my GF2MX is too much for that game lol).

To upgrade for 3DMark '06, hell no. Not a chance.

Nope, not even solitaire. No time to game during a school term. For some strange reason, my computer seems to run faster (regular 2d application like surfing the net) after I upgraded the video card.

The upgrade was from Sapphire 9700np 128mb 256bit--> Geforce 4 MX440 64mb 128bit (filler card) --> ATI 9700pro 128mb 256bit

RFD has made me purchase excessively. I sold my 9700np cause I was starting a school term and a friend of my wants a cheap video card, so I sold to him less than what I paid for it. Now I can't help myself but to jump on various deals. It's hard to resist the almighty deals! :(

What was your previous video card?

I got the new card for gaming...already had it for a couple months, too, so what's the point of going higher? a 7800gtx 512? not worth the ug from 256.

how bout the quad 7800gtx? sounds like a significant jump. which reminds of the picture joke of voodoo 6 6000, 6 X voodoo built-in one card, 6 times as long as voodoo 1 which makes a voodoo 6!
