Scanning documents -- PDF

I have hundreds of pages to scan... in blocks of 2-page documents...

When I try to use OCR I do not get great text read (most are scans/faxes so not the best results and I need 100% accuracy...)

The PDF files are around 2MB each... isn't that a bit large?

Anyway to shrink the file size?

I just scanned one that was 6 pages... 6MB @ 175 DPI, 8.5x11

It is ONLY text, but I assume that since I can't OCR it, each page is a full-page image, therefore increasing file size.. :(

It's never gonna be 100% accurate... consumer OCR isn't really very good still. If you just need the image... multipage TIFF is quite small for scans.

The problem is that eventually the docs will be put on a website for download...

For small file size, 8.5x11 in 16-color TIFF file should be ~ 400KB and basic color can still be retained.

My worry about this is ease of downloading though....

Far more people will be able to open the PDF than a TIFF, no?

also just noticed that I cannot seem to scan to TIFF?

Lexmark X7170... coulda sworn i was able to before i reinstalled everything... :S

True but a TIFF viewer is built into XP... Adobe is just more cross platform.

My worry about this is ease of downloading though....

What fixed it? For the benefit of people who might need this information in the future, it might be a good idea to let people know :)

ugh maybe not :(

It seems I have like 5 different PDF types... through various menus, which all seem to produce a differently sized pdf! :(
