Its still good to know that they are selling camcorders so one can pricematch in the future. I only wish they had camcorders in the summer when I purchased one, as I could have taken advantage of their old 150% policy and their regular online coupons. So not a good deal, but I think a good post to make us aware of potential deals.

Apparently the canon zr400 is at Costco for not much more. Saw it on a previous thread.

If anyone knows of any good camcorder deals, I'm interested as I need to purchase for the school I work at.

I won't make my major purchases until they:

1. Stop giving hassles when PM
2. Stop hiding stock when they know items are subject to PM
3. Stop that ridiculus Saturday 999 items deal, and
4. Give me that $1.97 printer! :D

i have stopped to shop in staples after they changed the PM policy. They have the "Over-Priced" gurranty.

no surprise as most consumer electronics have high markups

it is when PM is possible. but the PM is dead since FS doesn't have any in stock.

How about:
6. Change "that was easy" to "shopping at somewhere else is never easier."

Did I say it right? Double negation was never my thing...

I love Staples.

Takes a little effort and some luck with timing, but I get FS boxing week style sales at Staples all year long

I hope they expand their product selection further .. maybe LCD TVs?

Big ticket item will be OOS quick as staples could not compete with larger electronic stores in pricing...

Sorry we are OOS.

ype I don't shop there anymore. sometimes I go there to pick up a pack of sharpies markers, but not anymore.. I'd just goto costco and buy a the bulk pack.

I got the same camcorder for around $338 at Sears on clearance. It was a decent camera (I.e. better than an old non minidv camcorder I had) but it was lacking in a couple of departments. I ended up getting something more advanced (even though the price difference was over $200).

Anyway, this thread doesn't belong in Hot Deals. Maybe better in "off-topic" as a headsup...

no. I'm talking about the combined effect of PM, coupons, dividends, and AtHome gift cards

30% off (or more) deals happen everyday. You just have to learn to look for them since some of the best deals are for items that aren't on sale.

example: Staples has some item for $240. FS has same item for $220

after PM cost = $220 - $2 = $218 plus taxes

after $20 (sometimes $30) coupon = $198 plus taxes

Use AtHome GC so actual cost = $198 * 0.80 = $158.40 plus taxes

So your cost was $158.40 plus taxes which is 28% less than the lowest price you could find (the one at FS) for an item that wasn't likely even on sale.

And after all that you still get Dividends. 2.5% in Dividends (5% after you spend $1000 from the start of the year) = $4.95 back next quarter.

Note that the extra 10% PM has little benefit. If it was just 100% price match, Staples would still be cheaper than FS or BB for every item that they carry due to the coupons and Dividends

OH... ok... in that case most of the time shopping at stooples is prbly cheaper than at FS/BB...

but remember, FS/BB also has those AtHome 20% off GCs too. ;)
