Does anyone have any Photo Printing experience with this BadBoy?? Please Tell!! This BadBoy uses HP LaserJet Photo and HP LaserJet Glossy Papers!!

One attractive feature is the inclusion of media slots so you can print photos directly from a media card via the front panel, without having to go through a PC. Media card slots are common on inkjet MFPs but rare on laser-based machines.
The 2840 also dawdled as a printer, printing text documents at 7 pages per minute and color graphics at just 1.3 ppm. On the other hand, text looked clean and sharp, and grayscale graphics had a smooth texture and little banding--though our testers deemed the test pages too dark. Color graphics were generally good, with realistic hues that were just a touch too bright. Blues looked a bit oversaturated, but images had smooth transitions and good contrast. Test images printed on photo paper appeared vibrant but somewhat pixelated.
HP includes media card slots for CompactFlash, Secure Digital xD-Picture card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and MultiMedia Card with the 2840; and it capitalizes on these by offering a number of photo-specific features more typical of photo-centric HP printers. For example, you can print a proof sheeting containing thumbnails of all of the photos on your card. The 2840 goes beyond printing a contact sheet: You can take that proof sheet, mark photos directly on the page, and scan it back into the machine. The MFP will then print all of the photos you've chosen.

Output quality is superb. More than half our test fonts were easily readable at 4 points, with none needing larger than 8 points. This earned the 2840 a rating of excellent for text, with output that's good enough for just about anything you might want to use it for. Graphics were marred only by some minor banding in a few images, for a rating at the high end of very good. That means you can print output—say, your own trifold brochures—that makes even a home-based business look fully professional.

Photos printed on HP's glossy laser paper ranged from near-photo to true photo quality, earning a very good rating, although some were slightly dark, as if shot through a neutral filter. In any case, the photo quality is easily good enough for printing items like client newsletters and marginally good enough for printing snapshots or photos for framing. And it's worth mentioning that the 2840 is the first color laser to earn a very good for photos.

My girlfriend's parents purchased this one just before the holidays.

Just a note, it's a nice printer but it is very loud.

No... no extra deal on gift cards, etc. for Gold members. However with the BMO WestJet Mastercard, you can get a flight for a discounted amount. I recently got a ticket from Vancouver to St. John's NL, for 1400 airmiles. Based on spending 225 AM for $25 card.. this would put the cost of the ticket at $155. :)

Good price, however getting a click-charge lease from a manufacturer is always a much better deal in the long run; you'd be surprised at how many things can go wrong with a laser printer that's been heavily used for over a year. And also how hard it is to recover your investment into it once you decide against the laser printer route. >:( Paying for them out of your own pocket will negate any savings and then some.

I do not see any use in this to an average home user at all; Want photos? Get a canon inkjet + a continous ink system and a barrel of ink for the $1000 this printer cost. Want crisp b/w text with colour photos? Get the above combination, cut $100 out of the ink budget and buy a samsung b/w printer; Then print colour first then text. The only major advantage the laser all in one will have over this is print speed and an ability to batch-scan documents but then it can't print on creative media types i.e. transperencies/backlit paper.

Why do I want this BadBoy?? Because it's KOOL!!!
I've been into Microcomputer networks for almost 18 years and I've always had to have the latest, the greatest, and the KOOLEST office toys around.

I've bought my first laser, an HP LaserJet 4p in 1991 for about $1200 and people asked me the same question back then...why does anyone want a laser printer for home use??? Because it's KOOL!!!

...as requested, here are my TOP TEN reasons to own a KOOL product like this one for my home!!

10) I have a stack of personal documents that I would like to image so I can discard the paper, the 50 page ADF will make short work of that, including scanning directly to an electronic image on my file server (NSLU2 (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1115416906769&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper)).
9) Incomming lettermail (bills) will be immediately imaged and discarded.
8) My Wife's perpetual printing of our Wedding photos will no longer require my frequent replacing of the inkjet cartridges (and trips to the store to buy more!).
7) The fax machine I can use for transmitting signed financial documents including VOID cheques and also receiving of documents
6) The ability to use all these features from my 3 PCs in my home.
5) The paper copier I've always wanted.
4) The 250 page paper tray which I can load and forget for a LONG while.
3) A great toy for my children to play with :cheesygri
2) To brag to my IT coworkers and Boss at work about how much more advanced and efficient my home network is than what we have at work!!

And the TOP REASON why someone would want this BadBoy for their home network??
1) Because I have one and you DON'T (TADAA drum roll please!!)

Dave Letterman, eat your heart out! :D

In fact, I plan to cash in my 5000 Airmiles for $550 in Staples Gift Certificates to reduce my cost to...$1030 * 1.15 = $1,184.50 - $550 = $634.50 !!

I wish I had a membership in one of the Gift Card clubs so I can save another $100 using Gift Certificates, maybe next time :LOL

Laser printers will never give you the same quality photos as inkjet. Ask any print shop - they use pro-series inkjets for photos.

Anybody want to buy my Canon ImageClass 8170c?
Asking $1200, Taxes included. Only 32 pages printed.

The reason to sell is... It doesn't come with Fax-to-PC function, confirmed with Canon tech support, no help there at all,, , only gave me the FAQ answers.

It's too heavy for me to return to Staples.. So.. sell it less to you.. >:(
