I think they are actually not bad batteries.

These were/are also available at Compusmart. I found them there on boxing day, picked up a few packs. They still had some there this past week when I passed by. I never did find any at Can Tire.

I use nimh in walkmans and so on...but my new galaga/ms. pac man tv game uses AAs and says never to put rechargeables in it (boo) so i guess I'll be going to walmart. Thanks OP.

May I ask why ?
let me guess, it's probably voltage difference, regular is 1.5V, and rechargable is 1.2V, my themostat doesn't take rechargable :|

However, it should still work as alkaline is not delivering 1.5V throughout the entire discharge curve.

My old Motorola FRSs also fall in this category. It is the alkaline AA version and it is the older version that does not have NiMH setting. When I use NiMH batteries in it, it always shows 2/3 at the battery indicator. It works just fine ... just never shows 3/3 ...

I 'stole' this from the web ...

I remember in the old time, some electronics (e.g. cameras) had warning not to use rechargeable batteries, said the large current (compare with the regular batteries) will damage the circuit.

i went to the Walmart in Barrhaven but they don't sell Memorex battery period.

Any other Ottawa store sell these?

I think alkalines are prefered in low drain devices..like smoke detectors, thermostats etc..the kind of devices that you change the batteries once or twice a year. Then again for those devices who needs this many batteries? I got these batteries a few months back at Sams Club. They are Ok...But I have a drawer full of them.

Yes they are. Ikea also sells a 10 pack of AAA's for $2.97 which is the cheapest I've ever seen for AAA.

I have the same tv game and I use rechargeables in it and it works fine. Been at least 3 months...I hope I'm not ruining the circuits like someone mentioned!

To answer another poster:

Memorex probably doesn't make their own batteries. They subcontract an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) to make batteries for them and then brand them Memorex.

Just like IKEA batteries in the familar yellow packaging. They are made by Varta of Germany, one of Europe's largest battery manufacturers.

My local IKEA's offer 10xAA for about 3 bucks. 4xAAA for 2.50 last time I checked. May have changed lately.

So, if you were to buy 50 IKEA AA batteries it would cost you 15 dollars.

I've bought 2 packs of these Memorex branded AA's from NCIX for 10 bucks each in the past and they work fine.

Great for toys that require AAs but you don't want to always have to take out rechargeables to charge. As well as for friends/family who have digital cameras and stuff but aren't savvy enough to have a NIMH charger and batteries. Lots of those people still exist.

"now at walmart"... so it's a "new" item right?

does that mean this $10 price is the reg. price or a "sale price"?

just curious, but i'd suspect this is a sale price.

The manual sheet doesn't say why. I asked by email last week but haven't heard back yet. Could be voltage like wlee said.

Thanks macdaddy, thats good news, maybe I'll risk it. Do you play it a lot and how long does a charge last? I'm on my third lot of alkalines now and I'd guess they last ~4 hours: there's *some* juice left afterwards so i'll keep em for remotes etc. Got 193,000 on galaga the other night, my high score. Fun game, eh! :D

On a related note, I was at Ikea recently, and the batteries which used to be made by Varta in Germany (which were very good), are now made in China. I saw some Made in Germany packs scattered around with all the new shipments of Made in China batteries, so I stocked up. I think this may now mean that the quality of the Ikea batteries is no longer what they used to be.

Cheap these are...but are they any good? Generic frequently don't pack the same punch at all. You usually can't use generics in most automated film cameras cause they won't function with them.

Can you share your experience with these bats?

I bought these from NCIX too...but almost thinking of returning them.

just bought an extra Logitech MX500 wireless set...figured who needed the mouse recharger clutter on the 700 at these bat prices
