A Toronto mother has turned her own son into police, after finding a deadly weapon in his bedroom.
She allegedly found an AK47 assault rifle, as well as a magazine full of bullets at the home she shares with her son in the Coxwell and Gerard area.
She turned the gun into police and had her 17 year old son arrested.
The woman and teen cannot be identified under the Youth Protection Act.
She hopes her actions will push other parents to keep a closer eye on their own children.
The boy is charged with 13 counts, including possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine.
A bail hearing is scheduled for later today.

Damn straight!
Hopefully this will set an example for the parents who think giving their teens their privacy & how it could turn deadly.
Know your kids, teach your kids, & be the one to teach them right from wrong, even if having to send them to jail.
It may hurt the parents to do it, but having your child killed, will hurt 100 times more.

Since AK47's are ban in Canada it's either come from the States with those crazy gun clubs or the shipping containers at the docks.

my god..... THats exactly my area.......
Theres a bunch of shady characters living in this hood (even tho it is a good part of toronto... there still is **** going on... sad.)
Since AK47's are ban in Canada it's either come from the States with those crazy gun clubs or the shipping containers at the docks.
Importing hand guns, rifles, and shot guns from the states is easy. But assault weapons like fully automatic weapons cost $10,000 in the states b/c of a "Assault weapons bann" That drove up the prices of legal assault weapons.
Customs cannot check every corner of every shipping container that comes into Canada. There are Milllions of shipping containers coming into canada everyday. Most likely came from AFrica where ak47's can be bought with a donkey and a carton of american cigarettes.

3rd world country choice the ak47. So easy to get and it is cheap.Cheap to build, cheap to maintain and very durable.
except they can't aim for ***** with it.
there is a whole thread of bad/silly AK stances. This is a typical way they use it.
I think this is a Liberian rebel and not a pro gov't fighter. Poorly trained to use it.

she just saved her son's life and gave him a new start. perhaps the crown will work out a plea bargain so his time is reduce -- if he's really smart he'll get his life back on track. nothing good comes out of owning something like that.

Grenade launcher thrown from balcony
Toronto police say that someone threw a military-style grenade launcher off a North York balcony during a weapons search yesterday.
Three men face 25 charges after police seized eight firearms and drugs at an apartment building on Chalkfarm Drive, in the Wilson Ave and Highway 400 area.
The drug squad was conducting a search of the apartment when they saw and seized a .308-calibre rifle, two imitation Uzi machineguns, three imitation handguns and two imitation assault rifles.
In addition, several rounds of ammunition were seized and a quantity of cocaine, marijuana and cash was taken.

The NRA is a very strong group. And don't forget the second amendment to the US constitution: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. "

different mentality down there too... Over there they want to Scare the criminals and treat them like **** where as canadians like to pamper them.
Many canadians feel a year sentence for beating their wife is "too harsh". Child molsters do 2-3 years @ max in Canada... in the states you could go to jail for life in some cases :|
Americans dont trust the police to protect them 24/7. Theres the mentality that they must defend themselves since it takes an average of 5-15 minutes to respond to a 911 call... by that time you and all your babies could be dead and raped.

Apparently the son was furious with his mother at first but he called her later on at home and thanking her for preventing something serious from happening.

She did the right thing... I mean what kind of a choice do you have? Your kid has a gun. Are you going to try to get it off of him yourself or live in fear that if you piss him off he's going to kill you?
Some of the charges are kind of redundant...
# Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
# Unauthorized possession of a firearm
# Careless storage of a firearm
I get that it's good to press as many charges against an offender as you can. But if he had his AK-47 on a gunrack in his bedroom hanging up, he would only get hit with the above two instead?

I think it needs a lock on the trigger and put in a locked case at the least.

Scary part is that if this 17 yr old kid has or had a AK-47....how many other kids have one too? how many AK-47s are out there?...what other weapons are out there?
Hopefully the police will do their homework and try to find out where he got it from...also hoping that this kid talks. They have some serious investigation to do. Give big props for the mother turning her son in...but how many other parents know what their kids are up to?...these kids need help they need people to guide them the right way.

Some gangs in Los Angeles have assault rifles. Particularly certain Asian street gangs tend to be fond of stuff like sub machine guns, mac 10's, etc... So no, its not only the 3rd worlds. Some major American cities have already had these weapons used. Uzi's too.

They aren't manufactured in Canada. There was a case a few years ago about a whole bunch of AKs smuggled into the US from China(?). Anyways, this is absolutely crazy.

They're banned in the US as well, at least any of them made after the 60s.. earlier models are able to be traded between licensed collectors.

Looks like the kid is not a Fark.com photoshopper. From a thread last year:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/7369/17306981fb.jpg
While an AK-47 is easy and cheap to maintain, it is a horribly inaccurate rifle. Yes, I'd be a little intimidated looking down the barrel, and this kid should obviously not have had one, but it's hardly anything new.
The armed robbery of a store in the White Oaks mall in London, ON a few months ago resulted in an SUV, (the getaway vehicle), speeding through London city streets at crazy speeds with an armed assailant standing up through the sunroof firing an AK-xx at other vehicles.*
Yowzas...
*Last I heard, it was described as a Kalashnikov type weapon and was being fired at police and civilians while the SUV was at a high rate of speed. The day ended with 2 of the robbers dead and 2 captured after they rolled their SUV on Hwy 402.
