Lately Apple has used all PC parts (i.e. hdds, CDROMS, RAM, PCI cards) for some time now, I believe starting with the 7500 if not earlier. Pretty much the only difference to PCs were the CPUs.

I thought they started to use "standard" (I wouldn't call them just "PC" parts) parts earlier than 7500... except they were using SCSI.
PC part or not, someone buy this laptop! At $1100, you can't lose! Besides, it's the latest revision of iBook and this would probably be the last G4 iBook! I'm just using one typing this message right now.

I am shocked this isn't sold yet. I'd grab it, but I need something that runs Linux.

The price of this unit on the US Apple website is only $999, and $1249 on the Canadian website. Not sure how your girlfriend paid $1450 for it. Gonna send you a PM about it tho. ;)
