Am looking for opinions or advise on satellite radio. Which is the best receiver and carrier?

Both Sirus and XM have about the same line-up outside of the talk shows, (Howard Stern is with Sirus) the sampling (lower than most MP3's) is pretty low. Sirus has the lifetime membership for $549 (they say never pay another bill) but some critics suggest that because the content from both is almost the same, U.S. regulators will make both of them merge.. and your lifetime membership will probably be at risk.
I was looking at satellite radio from the lifetime membership stand point. You spend say $700 total, hook up to your home/car system, and with a 100 channels, it's like having an awesome collection of music without the hassle. Negatives are that the lifetime membership can only be transfered into 3 different units over time. The Howard Stern deal is so expensive, that most of the captial will be sucked dry...(putting your lifetime membership at risk) No local news and it's not likely to happen. A lot of the channels broadcast elevator music for stores. But the biggest negative is the lack of sound quality, and it's likely they will add more channels instead of increasing the bandwidth for quality.
One of these carriers has applied and recieved experimental bandwidth for video.. (forgot which) so you can see the mind set.... video-ipods and not high fidelity, which is the wrong direction IMHO.
