I am completely lost as to how one can use an LCD monitor to watch TV. I currently have my 2005FPW running off my dell 700M. Is there any way to watch TV directly though the LCD using some sort of tuner box? I would prefer to be able to run the cable directly to the LCD without having to use the laptop so just incase I don't have my laptop there, I can still watch TV.
Any advice?

I tried looking though that thread, and found one most where the guy said he uses an old tv tuner and Dscaler. No specifics...so I am still lost :). Thanks for trying to point me in the right direction!

do you have the 2005FPW with the speaker base? if not, then you will need to find a way to get audio to play, unless you are fine with out.
Otherwise, the 2005FPW accepts composite and S-Video input. Any decent receiver like one for Rogers/Bell will have those for outputs. You will then need to get audio input. That, you can do, with a converter, for RCA to 1/8" stereo jack. You will need female ends on both the RCA and the stereo jack.

That seems pretty stright forward. Has anyone tried this...how does this picture look?

Anyone else using their 2005FPW to watch TV? What are your setups, and how does it look?

I connected my Roger's digital cable box via s-video to my 2005FPW and it wasn't as ba as I was expecting. I mean it wasn't HD or anything, in fact the picutre does look much better on regular tv. I currently have my XBox connected via s-video and again, the pciture quality lookes better on my tv (then again I am sitting pretty up close to my LCD) but I like the widescreen. As for the audio, I'm using a stereo RCA to mini jack Y thingy and a female to female adapter. It works although I'm looking building an Altoids amp as I don't have any volume control at the moment.
I will say that the picture quality does look better with an s-video connecting compared to standard composite cabels.

S Video is the only way to go, I would not go through the bother to watch TV on it via composite. If I was gonna go that route may as well look at a AIW series card or use a separate TV tuner.
It will be as good as basically any other decent LCD running a cable feed. Not spectacular but okay. If you want to watch TV at its best utilize a digital feed of some sort like Bell or Shaw or go DVB FTA

But course. I have an AIW 9800 on my desktop and a 2005FPW. However, I don't watch too much TV because it isn't comfortable.
You will have a lot of hassles to set up an external TV card on your Dell 700M laptop and an external LCD monitor. By the way, you don't need a laptop, just get a external TV BOX from Tigerdirect.

i have also connected my tv signal from the rogers box in the S-Video hook up and the audio is going through my soundblaster audio input...
i love clean crisp media, but this does fall a little short of that...
pros:
from about a 3 metre distance, the colours and brightness are incredible
cons:
the tv output is a little pixalated and in fast motion a little blotchy...(not really ghosting, but pixals are more visable), i noticed it while watching hockey and some basketball...
i'm also searching both redflag and google on how to fine tune the picture for both DVI and S-video inputs...on one of the reviews (in which i noticed the same thing), it says that for component video input (such as DVD player) the picture is a little dull...i have the same experience, also when watching movies through a DVI input...
i have not tried to use an HD signal yet using component, but judging by the picture on the DVD w component, I'm not too sure the colour would be any better...
if any of you theater buffs know about a way to get more vivid colour on S-video connections,/ component, please share...
