What does this mean,

Explorer.exe - Unable To Locate Component
X This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
OK

I'm having trouble getting the icons back on my screen.

Your help is appreciated.

The question is how did that happen? Your PC might be infected with a virus or trojan. If so, you should wipe your pc clean and make sure you have a good anti-virus & firewall installed.

If you can get to system restore, just roll back to a day & time before all of this happened.
Then download AVG anti virus here:

It's free.

And if that doesn't work boot up off your Windows CD and do the repair routine.

I myself don't know all the commands to the repair in dos with the WinXP disc, so I would take out the main harddrive in that computer, changed the pin from Primary to Slave or CS Enabled, and plug it into another WinXP comp which is clean & fully functional. When it boots up, it should automatically repair that system.

"I myself don't know all the commands to the repair in dos with the WinXP disc..."

You don't need to know anything. You can choose repair off a menu. Many web pages describing this including:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

".....plug it into another WinXP comp which is clean & fully functional. When it boots up, it should automatically repair that system."

Really? I've never heard of this. Can anyone confirm that this works?

I've used that many times, mostly when the OS has gotten the Blue Screen of Death. I discovered that accidentally when I plugged in my HD to another comp to back up some files before formatting, and it actually curred the system.

I've used that method about 7 times now.

7 times?! Maybe it's time to install a new OS. ;)

Oh no no, not 7 times on the same OS LOL.
I never had to on this one, I have 6 comps. Done it 3 times on 3 diff comps, and did it for friend's too.
