Ok. I received a laptop for xmas. I may "upgrade" it slightly, but it is quite possible, highly likely infact, that I may be replacing my desktop with a laptop. The only issue I see is the slower HD (4200 rpm vs 7200 rpm). Anyhow...I asked this 5 months ago, but there is no use reviving that old post. This time I am asking for real such that I may post it for sale quickly, since I have the laptop now, and the laptop replacing my desktop is not just an idea. I have no idea if I will keep my lcd monitor, keyboard and mouse and speakers to use with this laptop when I am at my desk, and I may also keep the LG DVD RAM burner (unless somebody can convince me that the dual-layer burners in laptops like this one:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10069888&catid=20354&logon=&langid=EN

(but that is another issue...see my other thread shopping for a laptop.)

So, therefore, I would appreciate feedback on individual items.

Price check for desktop PC :)
How much ca$h could I get for this PC of mine?? How much are the parts or the whole worth if I sold it?

Here are the parts listed one by one:

Retail MS XP Pro with SP2
CPU: AMD64 3000+ (Artic Silver + oem HSF)
Motherboard: MSI Neo2 Platinum
OS: XP Pro SP2 (not sure if I could/should keep this)
RAM: 1GB OCZ Premier DDR 2x512M PC3200 (2.7V 1T 2.5-3-3-10)
Video: Geforce2 GTS AGP card
HDD: Seagate 7200.7 200 GB SATA HD
Optical drive: EIDE LG 4163B DVD burner (may keep burner)
CASE: Enermax CS-656-TA ATX case w/ 3 fans
(2 front USB, 2 audio (mic/line) & one firewire port. Adjustable fan control and temp readout.)
PSU: Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA PSU (12V=29a)
PCI cards: Haupaugge PCI PVR 250 video capture card/TV tuner
Monitor: Samsung 712N 17" LCD monitor (specs - 600:1 contrast and 12ms) & 3 year warranty

and the rest of it:
Logitech PS2 wheelmouse
Microsoft PS2 internet keyboard
Mitsumi 1.44 MB floppy with built-in USB 2.0 card reader (so easy to download photos from my camera card)
Onboard sound and LAN (no separate cards)
Adaptec 2930CU SCSI card and Pioneer 303S SCSI drive (not really being used in this system)
regular powered speakers

While assembling this system I was worried that I'd have problems like I saw people on the net complaining about. I have so few problems with this system its amazing. Maybe thats just XP Pro, but few crashes (I can't remember the last crash) or other problems. And a year later, I still cannot believe how stable this system is. I run stock clock.

Could someone put prices to this? Individual or complete system?
How much could I get for this? Really need a notebook/laptop instead.

thanx again!

P.S. I would also sell a really nice desk with it too...$50.00. Can post pictures.

I gotta be honest, I'm too lazy to take a stab at the value of all those components, but it's still a good machine and you could get some good cash for that machine.

If you do decide to part it out, PM me, I would probably take about half of those parts off your hands.

Good luck.

Hey!! You get off your lazy holiday sleeping in late butt and price the entire PC out one part at a time....lol... ;)

No kidding, I realize its alot to ask, but I am just talking ballpark-ish. One thing is I am not sure if I would keep the LCD monitor, perhaps the LG dvd burner. For sure the PCI Hauppauge would go with it, will not fit in laptop.

Also trying to figure out if I can sell the MS XP Pro OS with the PC (including original discs etc etc). My XP Pro was not OEM. I built the PC and installed the OS etc myself. So that alone is worth at least $100.00 (more really).

Anyhow, I will keep you in mind :)

Parting out...

I can price it out guessing:

XP Pro SP2 $100
MSI Neo2 Platinum $75
AMD64 3000+ (Artic Silver + oem HSF) $100
1GB OCZ Premier DDR 2x512M PC3200 (2.7V 1T 2.5-3-3-10) $100
Geforce2 GTS AGP (did I mention I do not play games...lol) $10
Mitsumi 1.44 MB floppy USB 2.0 card reader $10
Seagate 7200.7 200 GB SATA HD (main system HD) $100
LG 4163B IDE DVD burner $50
Samsung 712N 17" LCD monitor $175
- other details...
Enermax CS-656-TA ATX case w/ 3 fans - Enermax EG425P-VE SFMA PSU (12V=29a) $100
Case is really nice with temperature readout, fan speed control, mic input, speaker/headphone output, two USB and a firewire port.

= approx $800 parted out
