Why can't you say how?

Usually I jsut haggle with them. As long as you're getting something that's worth a reasonable amount (say, making a purchase of $40-50+), then ask them if they can go lower. Most of the time, they'll say yes if you pay cash (but not interact). Apparently, if you pay cash, they don't have to record the transaction and therefore they share the 15% tax with you, so you get 7.5% off. Even better than 5% off.

Are you telling me that a computer store evades taxes??? NOOO.. That isn't possible, I don't believe you :)

EDIT: Blah, I noticed that I don't have PDF reader on this machine after I did a clean install a few weeks ago. I don't want to install the ADOBE viewer. I guess I will have to search around for another viewer. If someone could post the best deals from the PDF it would help!

It's in Newtonbrook Plaza for those that are interested, not that I am though. CC doesn't have any good deals that's worth my time, and even if I were to camp out, I'd visit Richmond Hill store at Bayview+Mac beside Payless Shoes :D

Not sure why anyone would go pfft to the 4% on boxing day. It adds up if you plan on getting something expensive or buying a bunch of parts.

Just take an example of say the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, current price $512, take off 4%, you save $20.48, and can get it for $491.52.

Or if you buy a system for say $1500, you save $60, on top of the already low prices, and any items that would be even further marked down for boxing day.

There might not be something for everyone, but there are savings there for anyone looking to buy.

I bet at canada computers, 4% is almost all their markup
Their markup may vary depending on the type of product. I think it's around 10% on video cards.

I bought a refurb video card a few years ago and it turned out to be defective. After I got it, i was too busy to try it out, and didn't get around to installing it until about a month later. I went back to the store and asked for it to be fixed, they refused and told me there was nothing they can do for me. Their warranty period on refurb items was apparently 30 days, it was NOT written on the invoice nor was taht conveyed to me at the time of purchase. I was 2 days too late. A year before that, they sold me a defective hard disk. I got really pissed off and started yelling at them. It was a saturday afternoon so it was really busy at the pac mall location. The person in charge just wanted me to shut up or leave so he offered me a 10% discount on any video card I wanted. I was like: I spent $50 on a POS and all you can offer me was a 10% discount? I told him that was unacceptable and wanted either my card fixed or a much bigger discount. The guy (who was not too fluent in english) said something along the lines of "10% is our markup. If we give it to you for any cheaper, we will lose money."

Things I learned:
-the CC markup is around 10%
-after you buy something from CC, try it out immediately. They can not be trusted.

Alucard-
Dec 26th, 2005, 04:13 AM
4percent is a pretty good deal, I work at a computer store and quite a few things like cpu's don't even have a 4percent markup alot of the time. The deals on videocards aren't really that good at canadacomputers, but something like the 3000+ 148.99 with 4percent is a steal right now if you need them since they are suppose to be around 165 once they run out of stock.

Im am going to send a formal letter of complaint.
I was told yesterday by someone who works there that I am not elegible for the gift card.
I go there alot and buy alot of things from them and play BF2 with them on ocasion. Im going at 9:45am. So he can say it to my face. Then working with my aunt who is a lawyer to write a formal letter of complaint to the head office. On staff and policy.

Forgot to mention. The reason that I am not eligible is that im under the age of 18 years old. He said that the reason what it was like a lottery.

I have no idea what that has any thing to do with a free gift card. The only reasons I could think of are: Lotteries are addicting. People under the age of 18 are not responsible and could waste money. or Cannot take the responsiblity of using the winnings, ie blowing it.

If someone wants to help me instead of my aunt. Then that would be nice because she is really busy now.

One last thing. The only reason for sending that letter is to scam a free gift card from them. :cheesygri

Good luck to all!

Another point to help your case:
I have been loking for a Transflash card for my v710 for a while and on Friday picked on up at CC for $39.99 after seeing the Boxing day price is only $4 off. I'm not going to fight crowds for $4.00. This has been at the $39.99 price for at least two months and they are advertising it at $35.99 ($4.00 off) but saying after $25 savings. It was never at $60.99!

lol dropped by the richmond hill location just to pick up some ram.. there must have been like 40+ people in line waiting to pay. The line looped around the display cases and back to the entrance of the store.

Well... just FYI if you were planning on picking something up.. might be better to forego the 4% for the 2% discount later on this week.

I got to the Waterloo one at 9 am and got a $20 card. The line was unbelievably long and moving unbelievably slow. I swear, Canada Computers has the worst cashiers in Canada. My 7 year old brother can check people out faster than those guys.

Says nothing about being 18 or older.
unless you mean the one on the site.
Also they do not sell ipods. only refub 3rd gen ones.

And I wasnt owned. Even if it does say that. they have no legal biased to invoke rules like that. they can only say one per purchase or one per household if they want to prevent people from having more than one.

I asked my aunt who is a lawyer...so dont day I better get my lawyer to read it...

I know what im doing...just you wait untill Ive settled this and come out with a gift card or a store credit.

Maybe that's what the "save" is. In comparison to FS/BB or MSRP. The mouse goes for $139.95 I believe on Logitech's website.

So technically you are saving that much.

For other stuff, its spot on, like the BFG 7800GT, was $699 droped to $629 so you save $70, and the 7800 GT was $469 droped to $429 so you save $40.

Its just not specified if its a "was" and "now" price savings, or a more general "Savings" compared to MSRP/Competition.

I don't necessarily consider it missleading, cause you are saving those figures in comparison to others/before. Or even the prices on the ram, like the OCZ premier kit, was $124.99 (before rebate) and now its $99 after $10 MIR, so you save a total $25 or so.

Not sure about warranty because they come in a cheap OEM packaging - aka an antistatic bag. That's it. Kingmax's website says lifetime, but with Canada Computer's packaging...I'm not so sure.

And yes, the SPD for 200 mhz is 2.5-3-3-7 as advertised. I haven't tried tighter timings yet, but reviews say it's physically impossible to run them at 2-2-2-5.

Well, it doesn't look like they've marked prices up, at least not to me.. I don't know all their prices at the top of my head, but they sure seem to be quite low. And plus, CC flucuates their prices pretty frequently.. I remmeber when I was looking for a hard drive from them, it would jump from $125 to $120 to $118 back to $120 then down to $116, etc..

LOL

must be a stupid employee, please do let me know his/her name

prices were not raised two week in advance....what a bunch of bull.

i think the employee didn't get his info right..

i like how people like to try and spread misinformation, even more sad that its an employee

not to mention, an increase of 4% would really hurt CC in those "two weeks", as we all know how competitive the market is, wouldn't make sense.

in actuality, as the products advertised in the flyer, and ONLY these products, were advertised as including (as in addition to the sale price cuts) the % discount, the prices for these products were adjusted up by the % on boxing day, so that at checkout the system would automatically adjust the price downward by 4%...since the system was set to discount all purchases by 4%, this was done to prevent a double discount.

so everyone got 4% off on boxing day no matter what they purchased, and in addition to this discount, they saved even more on the advertised products that were on special.

I've been watching their prices for the past few weeks and I haven't noticed any price increases. Today I bought a case and hard drive at prices that I expected.

I has been looking for amd cpu so I noticed AMD 64 3000+ was $143.99 2-3weeks ago, now it's 148.99 and it's 4% discount differences. I was wondering why they bother to adjust $5 differences.

Did they raise Antec Sonata II's price as well? (maybe I found the cheaper price elsewhere)

If the price of the 3000+ went up, then its just a coincidence. Typically CPU prices steadily continue to drop, unless there is a supply issue, then they might go up. Also, if an item had previously been on special, then after the promotion ends, the price may go back up, stay the same, or drop even more.

Example, the Athlon 64 3700+ was $259.99 on promo for 1-2 weeks prior to this past weekend, still the same price. The Athlon 64 3800+ was $399.99 during the same promo period, and currently its at $375.

The Antec Sonata II has been at $128 for a while now. It was even in the CC Holiday promo at that price.

Original price on those was $53. I've had my eyes on the dual channel kit ($106) for a while now, but got two individual sticks since the dual channel kit didn't go on sale.

Hey, Yohin05. Which CC store do you work at? Can we RFDers get some discounts from you? :D

Maybe you can leak some soon to be on sale prices?

Sorry, no deals. Actually, sales guys shouldn't be giving customers deals.

But, I can give you guys a heads up on some stuff now and then.

Thanks for the info. I was also avoiding the BD madness, but didnt realize that the $45 pricing was only for that one day. Right now its $50, so the deal is definitely not as good. Debating if i should go for the OCZ with the rebate or not.

Ok, i ended up picking up the 2x512 OCZ premier. I just have a question regarding the rebate.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/rebates/OCZ/OCZ_PC3200_Premier_Kit_Dec_05.pdf

On the form, it says to include "an original OCZ logo from clam shell". Anyone have any idea what that means?

remove the sticker and send the entire logo. It should be fine :)

Did you guys notice the postmark date??? It's coming up pretty soon.

I think i'm going to removed the sticker with the logo, remove the sticker upc, and remove the sticker with the item number, and send them all out. Just to be on the safe side :)
