I was wondering if anyone has seen any deals on Queen size mattresses. I'm prob gonna check out sleep country on Boxing day. Do these types of stores usually have good boxing day sales?

I know (at least in Calgary) SleepCountry literally just started carrying Tempur stuff. I bought one last Friday and was told I was the first to buy at that location. They had just set up the demo's the night before I went. It was pretty obvious they weren't even trained on the Tempur products yet. Sales guy said they'd be doing that this week.

Anyway, long story short they're having "intro pricing" which was 20% off. Abnormally compared to other matresses Tempurs have a 90/10 split on box springs (you get only 10% off list if you buy matress only, "normal" matresses are a higher % off without box spring). So that's potentially 30% off list on a Tempur matress. At this price (for the first time and I've been searching for over a year) I found the Canadian price to be comparable to USA ebay prices!

I'm inclined to say the east may be even more competitive. And I'm unaware of Boxing Day events.

Apparently local competition has ceased carrying Tempur. I'm guessing they wouldn't have been able to handle PMing SleepCountry.

I also got the guy to give me a deal on some Tempur pillows, and he showed me the actual margin on them. It's very low. On a side note, one model happened to be more $ than some of the beds they sell. Guy said, "It's around $70". I replied, "um... you might want to check that". The look on his face upon doing so was great (it was around $250).

My stuff should arrive within 12 hours. :cheesygri Delivery was a little slow it being so new. Ha, I did get to take one display pillow home as they weren't yet unboxed and they happened to have double of that type.

I'll post a review soon if anyone cares. Looking through some of the other memory foam threads on RFD, there isn't too much good info yet (ex. Tempur is not 100% memory foam, it's layered like the rest.). Hopefully I can help a bit in that respect.

I was looking for a queen mattress and hit all the usual stores. The United Furniture Warehouse where I live was clearing out this years models from Serta for half price. I picked up a queen pillow top mattress and boxspring for 349 before tax. I got the last of that model, but there were still a couple other models on for 399.

I've never heard of "census" foam. Are you talking about Sensus foam (from Foamex)? If so, I'll have to disagree with your opinion. I also find it interesting that Foamex boasts of the profitability of their Sensus foam in the very beginning of the product brochure they offer. I wonder if they're focusing on making a quality product, or just profit?

On the other hand, Tempur foam is definately not crap. There are many brands of memory foam available now, notice who they all compare to? It's not each other... it's Tempur. Tempur is the industry standard for a reason. Also notice how many claim to be NASA inspired or such. But, there is only one that is Space Certified. Yep, it's only Tempur.

Some people find the "responsiveness" (read firmness) of Tempur to not be to their liking, I'll agree with that. Everyone has their own opinion of comfort and that should indeed be a major consideration in buying a matress. Personally I've tried many other memory foam brands (as well as similar latex foam matresses) and I prefered the Tempur. There were only in store tests, but I don't see my opinion changing. (And if it does I have 60 days to switch. ;) )

Also I forgot to mention SleepCountry is supposively carrying Select Comfort (the air number bed) now. There may be intro and/or Boxing deals on these models as well.

From my experience last week with these new products I would be sure and educate yourself beforehand on the product features of these new offerings as the sales people may not be entirely familiar with them yet.

I went to Sleep Country and bought a 2399.99 Stearns & Foster memory foam mattress for $1539 taxes-in, with 2 tempur-pedic brand memory foam pillows.
